Hello All,

For the best part of 2 months now i have been thinking about building my own Gaming rig - (Ex console gamer). What i am looking to build is a system that could play Final fantasy XIV at its highest setting and i could use for browsing the web and watching movies. I have a 37in HD 1080 Tv im hoping that i could use along side the rig i build?

Could someone help me spec out my first PC build?

unfortunately i don't have a OS, mouse or keyboard.

My rough budget is £500 but could stretch further if it was advised so.

Final Fantasy XIV Requirements -

Operating System Windows 7 32-bit / 64-bit *
Processor Intel® Core™ i7 (2.66 GHz) or faster
Memory 4 GB or more
Storage Install: 15 GB or more
Download: 6 GB or more
Video NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 460 with 768 MB VRAM or equivalent
Sound DirectSound® compatible sound card (DirectX® 9.0c or higher)
Internet Broadband Internet connection
Resolution 1280 x 720 or higher; 32-bit
DirectX® DirectX® 9.0c
Controls Mouse, Keyboard, Gamepad

Any help/advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards

Ha, Sorry im a bit of a noob when it comes to requirments for PC games.

I could up my budget all i want is it to play FFXIV smooth and the graphics to be smooth along with it.

I just want to build a rig that could handle the3 game if you think i should push my budget higher im open to advice.

Thanks for your help so far Orcvader

im a bit rusty but this is just food for thought

ive replaced the HDD for an SSD cos at that price its just silly money

and opted in forthe sumsung ram as they rate it highly for overclocking on here same with the CPU and GPU

not too sure about the motherboard but the is pretty good bang for buck

the PSU might be overkill but i just know if you invest well now it will last a good few years :-)

please ignore that motherbaord its M-ATX

let me have alook to see whats probs a better alternative

this is a bit more but will be a better overclocker for your CPU

The problem with your TV is that:
A. TV screens being used as monitors burn out quite easily and the picture never looks write
B. It would need one hell of a graphics card?

A. If the TV has a "gaming/PC" mode, it should be fine.
B. Nope. It's still 1080p, and the 6850 can easily deal with that for FFXIV.

Even then the TV wouldnt last long as because its not PC optimized it wont ever look the same. Ive got a new TV downstairs and even with the gaming/pc mode I try to avoid it where possible.

Well thanks for your input guys im really looking at the £800 mark.

greatly appreciated for your time and advice.

thought i'd give my 2 cents as ive just started to give ffxiv another shot, with my 2 6950s, the game scales with crossfire really well, i can max out everything, 60 fps, only problem is both cards ramp up to 100% making the top card get hot, With a single 6950 (which is a little slower than a 7850) the game can be played at more or less 60 frames a second, but things have to be set to standard rather than high, and ambient occlusion lighting has to be turned off, otherwise you getting 20 fps or less which is unplayable. unfortunatly ambient oclusion lighting makes the game look much nicer! when v 2.0 is released the game is supposed to be a bit less demanding however..
