I would like to fit an aftermarket cooler to my GTX480 to cool it down, but mostly to shut it up! :p

There are many coolers which are not available to buy at decent prices, others which look dog ugly, and ones that are too expensive. If possible i want to avoid coolers which are attached with glue, as if i were to sell the card i would put the original HSF on it.

Because of this i have ommitted the following:

Accelero Xtreme Plus (attaches using glue, a bit expensive)
Zalman VF3000 (doesent fit in with my rig's aesthetics)
Thermalright Shaman (too big and ugly, hard to find)
Thermalright Spitfire (what the hell is this ugly thing?)
Watercooling (too expensive)

Any suggestions? Theme of rig is orange alchemy cables and white LED's.

You can use adhesive thermal pads for the Arctic Accelero.

Shaman is the quietest though in my opinion but as you say they are hard to find. A simple fan swap would lift the aesthetics.

meaning that it isnt glued on? That seems better... I dont understand why it is 2x as much as the other arctic accelero for older cards though when the old one is basically the same sort of thing... Is there no way to modify the old one to fit on a gtx480?

*edit* ignore that, it is laid out totally differently

Accelero Xtreme Plus with adhesive thermal pads as Tealc mentioned +1. I had 2 of these before I went watercooling and they are great :) You could always colour the fans yourself so it ties in with your scheme. Don't forget these coolers take up 3 empty slots so you'll want to check you have enough space.

plenty of room :) Will probably go with the Gelid purely because it is cheaper.

+1 for the Gelid Icy Vision Rev 2. Excellent cooler. Had one on my 470 for a while now. Cheap but a little tricky to fit. Temps are awesome though and even at full fan speed I can't hear it over my other fans which aren't exactly loud ones (Akasa Apache, Fractal Design Silent and Thermalright Silver Arrow).

Pretty sure you would be able to overclock by more than 10% on the icy vision (as the review says) my grx480 is on 820, 1640, 2100 with the stock HSF. Fan settings set 10% higher than stock, bit loud but never goes above 97 in kombuster or furmark, never above 92 on BF3 maxed out. Core is at 1.125v
