Selling a phone on Ebay

I forgot to put a note on my listing that I would be writing down the serial numbers etc of the phone and now I have 6 bids on it I can't revise my listing.

I have wrote down all the information and taken photos, is there anything else I can do to safeguard the sale? Sometimes I worry that someone could buy it, say it doesn't work and return a faulty one they originally owned and keep the one I sent. Although I have never personally experienced any bad buyers I am very wary about some of the scams and non genuine users etc.

In the event that a scenario such as above were to happen, how could I prove to Ebay that the seller is dodgy other than what I have already done? Ebay always seems to favour buyers rather than the sellers, so should such a thing happen I know Ebay would force me to refund them even though they would be in the wrong.

Phone ends in less then 3 hours so I will be posting tomorrow morning.

Any tips welcomed thanks :)

Why do you need to tell them (revising the listing) you are taking down the serial numbers of the phone?

Take your pictures before you post it and keep it as evidence, and if they do say it's broken and send it back when the numbers don't match present it to eBay and show how they've switched the phone.

you dont need to tell them that.. it would be good to include pictures with half the serial for e.g. so they don't try to pull a quick one on you

To deter unwanted bidders.

That's what I've done so far, not sure if it would be enough though. Probably nothing bad would come of it but when the bidder has 75% feedback for about 4 items it makes you wonder.

I am probably making a big deal out of it but in the back of your mind it makes you think, especially when loads of people get conned etc.

If I try to edit the listing the editor is disabled, probably to prevent sellers deceiving users who have already bid I suspect.

You can still add to the listing, even while it's running. Don't have any active listings to check how much I'm sure I've done it before.

I guess a foolproof way to make sure they can't worm out and say its not working is to grab the day's newspaper and film a video of the phone working, making sure to get the imei and serial in the video on the day you send it off. Just to make sure you have solid proof.

But that is quite laborious.

This might or might not help you but it will help cut down timewasters bidding on your listing.

Edit buyer requirements to look like this:

Don't have a PayPal account
Have received 2 unpaid item(s) recorded on their account within 1 month(s)
Have a primary delivery address in a location I don't post to
Have 4 policy breaches reported within 1 month(s)
Have a Feedback score of -1 or lower
Have a Feedback score of 5 or lower and no credit card on file
Are currently winning or have bought 1 of my items in the last 10 days and have a Feedback score of 5 or lower

You can also add members that you think is dodgy manually to your block list and cancel there bid if you want.

There's not a lot you can do. The mistake was to list a phone on eBay.

If the buyer pays by Paypal, it's time to lube up.

I did a video of the phone and box / Royal mail receipts in front of the TV with BBC news and teletext on (for the date) :p

Never hurts to take these precautions especially with some of the idiots you hear about making it bad for everyone else.

Problem is that even going to that extent isn't enough to prove to Paypal that the phone you took the photos of is the one you sent the buyer.

Well the only way is to video the whole process. E.G, Boxing, packing and the trip to Royal Mail.

I have sold 3 phones on ebay. All i can say is whatt a nightmare each and every time. I learnt my lesson this time and just sold my Galaxy S2 too CarphoneWareHouse. I lost about £40 from the price i would have got on Ebay but hey its not worth the hassle and time.

Also note CEX exchange will not accept a phone unless you have the receipt.
They Said "You need proof of purchase in case its on contract" :(

Actually I think it would be, I removed the battery from the phone and the IMEI and other serial numbers etc are are set in which I took photos of.
