in regards to members wishing for easier access to Members Market in thread "Lurkers and members market"

Sorry, it's not going to change.

If you are really sorry you wouldn't be closing the thread. You would be actively trying to have a fair number of posts required to become a member of Members Market.

If this is in wrong forum, please move to appropriate one and see what members of Overclockers UK really want.

Yep. There are plenty of other places to sell kit on the web.

The reason why the requirements are so stringent is because quite a few people have been done in the past by members we all thought were respectable. Increasing the requirements makes getting MM access harder and so the hope is that those with access have made an honest effort to get it.

If you don't like the rules go elsewhere. It really is that simple

So you think it should be it's own little fiefdom and members should have absolutely no say in it?

Personally I (and many others) think the power that be should listen to what the members think and not just close the thread.

This matter has already been fully considered.

In-light of recent issue I have no choice but to change the criteria for MM access.

You now need a 1000 posts and need to have been a member for at least 180 days for the MM to appear. Anyone found spamming to gain entry will have their post count reduced and receive a suspension.

Anyone who gained access under the old criteria of 250 posts and 90 days will not be affected.

Criteria for MM access has changed.

The rules were tightened in favour of our users. We like our forum members to be safe, secure, and like to have rules in place.

If you don't like it, go somewhere else with less strict rules to sell/buy. Easy solution, but be careful who you give your banking details to.

If they reduced the requirements to get into this place, they would reduce their own number of sales. I'm not sure many businesses would be keen on that idea. They where kind enough to offer it in the first place.

You've been a member since July 2011 and class yourself a lurker? I could understand your point if you've been on the forums a few years but you haven't even done a full year and you have less than a post a day. Hardly contributing to the forums.

OCUK's forum; OCUK's Member's Market; OCUK's rules. There is no divine right to access the MM.

p.s. I can't access it and I understand why.

So how do we know if users have been a "long lurker"? That is a good excuse for anyone to sign up to our forums and scam people.

You know the MM is a privilege and not a right?

What were the recent issues please?

Going from 250 posts & 90 days to 1000 post & 180 days is a huge change.

Like I said, I love this forum.

I'm fully behind the heightened req's, yeah it must be frustrating for some but when members have had issue swith trades sometimes involving large amounts of money then it makes complete sense.

Access to MM has been reviewed a few times now and one thing stays you must be an active and contributing member, whilst I appreciate at times I may not contribute as much as some I still manage to get some discussion in here and there

Posts are easy to get when being active on this huge forum, the MM is to be secure and for people who have been on the forum for time and who have contributed.

It is a huge change indeed and it works. Less Police involvement, and less scamming problems, more happy forum members. This is what we prefer here.

This tbh. I completely agree with the decision that was made. The rules are there for a reason.

And was the right move. Previously it was open to abuse. At least now we "get to know" the people we are dealing with. Previously anybody could join up, spam the forums to increase their post count and sell stuff within 90 days and then do a runner when they get the money. Now it involves more time and effort and is likley to discourage the people who were likley to do the above.

OCUK does'nt have to have a members market, after all they are a shop and the MM is in direct competition with them. Hell, they don't even have to provide us with a free forum but they do and it's the best in the UK.
