Anyone got one of these?
I am thinking about getting one of these but not sure if it will do what i want it to do.
I would like it to be able to stream movies (avi) from my imac to the tv. I think that it can do that but I have heard that you need to have itunes running for it to work.
I have multiple users set up on my imac, if i log in as me (for example) and have itunes running, and then the imac goes to sleep and someone else logs in, will it still be able to stream ie wil people be able to browse the movies without me having to log in again?
 
I have a jailbroken ATV2 and a standard ATV3.

Jailbroken one ha XBMC installed and streams HD films from my NAS.
ATV3 I use Plex on my iPhone and iMac and then AirPlay films to it.
 
As long as your mac has wake over network enabled it doesn't matter whether it goes to sleep, or someone else is logged in.

iTunes just runs in the background, essentially acting as a media server to stream your content over the network.

I've had one since the 2nd gen was released. Love mine.
 
Anyone know what happens if I buy two of these?

How does the Apple TV 'link' or 'pair' itself?
Definately considering gettting these but have a worry
 
Recently swapped my ATV3 for an ATV2 so I could jailbreak it. It's transformed my movie/show watching - I can now stream all my stored videos and shows off my Synology DiskStation without lifting a finger as well as AirPlay Mirror my iPhone's youtube or other applications.

Works seamlessly.
