*** The official HTC One S thread ***

EDIT:

WTF where all my smilies and images go?!?!?!?

Thanks! :)

Great characters the pair of them, just simply adore them! :)

Yeah, quite handy when addressing specific parts of posts, but walls of text like ours, it is better to just do it this way :p

I think it might be my favourite feature of sense V4/S, just so good! Another slow motion video of TC! :D

Thanks :) Credits can't go to me though as the idea, icons belong to mrk :p The weather widget is snowstorm with sketchy skin

Will take some pics tomorrow of him and sprite tomorrow when we have better light :p Thanks again :), he really is top cat though, he practically owns this cul-de-sac, neighbours feed him sometimes, he scares every other cat off (my neighbours cat doesn't even leave the house now because of him, but she is pretty old so doesn't stand a chance against him really, feel a bit sorry for the cat though :( as we sort of looked after her before we took TC in), he then just enters our neighbours houses and goes and lies down on their couch LOL :D.

haha it is a pretty nice wee place :p, unfortunately no birds live in there though :( Think where it hangs is a wee bit too exposed for them (our hedge is rather dead :p :o)

Oh, that isn't as bad as Robbo then! :D :p He keeps all his phones and doesn't sell them on, I think he carries a bag full of phones around with him all day and swaps between them :p :D

Wow!

the one S photos looks quite a bit better to me in those shots.......... The difference in colours stand out the most and even looks to have more detail and be sharper!?!?!

I get more and more impressed with this phone everyday

Indeed! That is what I like about this thread so much and one thing, which the GS 3 and X thread are lacking! :p

Be sure to post your thoughts on them :)

Lol :D

i would probably get one just for the sake of it but i can't live with 16gb space :S what were htc thinking! i bet it puts off a lot of people..

te9i5.jpg

Am I reading that right? :p

As nikzGfx said, the majority of people probably don't care (the average joes), only puts the ones who know their stuff about android and phones in general regarding hardware details off.

But it is the main reason why a lot of people on XDA etc. didn't get one :(

@nikzGfx

Good to hear your thoughts to! :)

look forward to seeing the comparison of photos! Will be interesting to see how all 3 stack up.

It is amazing the way this phone is considered "mid range" and people assume that it won't be as good as the X/GS 3 simply because of the tag that it has been given by HTC and the review sites yet come to proper play time, people end up being more impressed with it than the X and just as good as the GS 3 or/and better in some areas and in other areas not as good. Truly outstanding.

Anyone else think HTC should have given the S the title "flagship" and the X "mid range" lol :p :D

At this rate Robbo may even trade his X for the S :p

Also the XL apparently is getting the same more or less as the S, iirc slightly better overall, some people getting up to 6 hours on screen time iirc.......just goes to show how good the s4 chip is for battery efficiency  and also just how good the screen is regarding battery efficiency.

@nexus using the task manager could I disable Sense now that I'm running Apex Launcher?

The task manager to kill tasks? Yeah you can do it that way as well (but they will still start up when you restart the mobile and maybe activate in the background), but if you go to settings>apps>click on app you don't want>top right, click disable, means the app won't launch at all, however, you can't disable a few apps e.g. sense launcher (this doesn't appear to run in the background at all anyway as long as you set apex as the default launcher) and HTC maps but most other things you can, be careful though that you don't disable apps/system stuff that would be required by another app e.g. you can disable all of sense app like notes and use a 3rd party app just fine

Gotcha...just had a quick go and I can't disable Sense as you say. But it's not running in the background so that's cool. I've disabled 3 apps so far. 7digital, google news & weather and teeter.

Yeah, shame that HTC haven't allowed us to disable that :(

At least we can disable most of their other stuff though :)

It should only run in the background when you switch back to it.

Yup, got them disabled as well along with about 15-25 other things :p

What, why? :p

The screen is just an instant deal breaker for me, and I think the X in white looks nicer as well.

The only real plus point I can see of the S is the battery life, but the S3 isn't far behind (at all) so the screen would mean I'd go for that instead.

It was a joke :p

Just after people posting their thoughts on the S (not just here either) after having actually played with one for a good while and in the end enjoying the experience of it overall more than the X it would appear.

Hence why I said that as I know that you aren't fussed on the S :p

Yeah, the GS 3 does seem like a great phone for the speed/smoothness (no surprise there though :p) and especially battery life, which I honestly wasn't expecting to be too good.

Which would you go for, the GS 3 or XL (obviously if we could buy it here that is :p)?

I think I know the answer to that though :p

@Johnnytoxic

Very snappy and instant that!

Tempted to turn animations off on mine as well, but I like the screen rotation animation too much :p

The XL of course! The XL is clearly better than the S3 aside from storage. I don't think you'd find many people who say otherwise.

Will the XL work outside of the US? If it does I'll import one.

Sun wasn't even that bright :/ not a fan of needing HDR mode to avoid the crazy bloom

Yeah, the HDR mode is only good when you have bright spots and some very dark spots i.e. shadows as well or just on a rather dull day.

Thought that! :D :p

I am sure that there would be quite a few that would disagree in the GS 3 thread now! :p

No idea about that now, I would imagine that it would work though....... the only thing, which I am not too sure about is the network data connection, would have to use a certain network over here maybe? Just like it was with the nexus one, I think it could only be used on one network over here, think it might have been Vodafone?

I would also take the XL over the GS 3 purely for sense V4, S4 chip, better battery life (more so when browsing) and better looks/design (IMO). The rest is more or less the same really aside from the storage. But I do prefer AMOLED over the IPS screen for the blacks and more vibrant colours.

It really was crazy that HTC didn't just have the XL as there top end device world wide, the X should have never existed IMO, should have just had the XL, S and V.

Haha :D I can really imagine that being your exact expression to! :p :D

Indeed! He knows everything there is about phones hardware etc.! If Sarge doesn't know the answer then no one does :p

I think your dreams may just come true Robbo (as well as stoosh and nikzGfx and most other people! :p), had a quick google and see quite a few news sites stating that the XL might be coming to the UK..........

http://www.knowyourmobile.com/blog/1336991/htc_one_xl_coming_to_the_uk.html

Although most of these reports are from the end of April and since Samsung got the rest of the S4 chips for their GS 3 USA version recently, I am not to sure if that will be the case now.... Maybe when there is more supply of the S4 for every company, it will happen!
