Don't dress like a wife, writes The DM from 1950

The article does take a dim view of men but I sort of agree with a couple of points. When I was with my ex, she never really made any effort (in anything really) and it was quite disappointing. It felt like if she never made the effort, why should I?

Are you, not making the 2AM sandwich for your Boyfriend?

:p

Probably for herself :p

I do make an effort sometimes, but he shares my life, so he should see me at my 'barest' (in all senses of the word :p ) if I always put on lots of makeup and wore smart clothes (that sometimes aren't very comfortable) I wouldn't be being myself.

One grows weary. It's difficult to even get angry at the gargantuan amount of literary slurry that emanates from the Daily Mail press office, anymore... They're the most successful bunch of trolls in history, perhaps Paul Dacre should be given a medal or something. That would really annoy them, not getting annoyed at the nonsense they write. Let's just ignore it, and hopefully it will disappear.

And in answer to your question:

OF COURSE SHE IS INCORRECT

You can't tell if it's an elaborate troll piece of not? Ok. It's not. It's their bog standard troll piece. It's a little bit of truth overstated to intentionally rile people up.

probably

though one of their better elaborate troll pieces re: women so far has to be this one:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/a...-looking-pretty-Why-women-hate-beautiful.html

a fairly average looking woman who's past 40 writing about how people hate her because she's so beautiful

And there is an unexpected upside to being well turned out: the more effort I make, the more my husband does.

If I go on a diet, he does, too. If I go to the gym, he starts cycling (he is competitive).

When he comes home from work and I am dressed up in heels and my best jewellery, he stays in his smart suit. We matched up for a reason: the trick is to remain that way.

Didn't read it all but it doesn't seem so bad at the end, it's a mutual 'making an effort' thing.

That second DM article is good. You can almost imagine as those pictures were being taken with her husband, "don't touch me". "I just married you so I can tell strangers I married a Frenchman".

My favourite lines.

A woman’s appearance is the most effective weapon in her arsenal — her brains and personality count too, of course, but looks matter more to men, no matter what they might claim.

Not all women are born naturally beautiful, but the wonderful thing about clothes is that they make up for it.

You need to be pretty or your man will leave you, but if you aren't: buy clothes! I'm pretty sure the fashion industry agrees.
