My friend is putting a new system together and can't decide whether to go with a GTX570 or 7850. I suggested the 7850 purely because it's newer tech and has less power draw.

He is going to be getting a z77 board and i5 3570k. He is going to be playing FPS games, BF3 and Arma/DayZ mostly. He is interested in whichever he will be able to up the settings on most playing at 1920x1080.

He has a budget of c£200 for the GC in case there is any left field ideas that come out.

Thoughts and opinions please.

From having read the accounts of 6850 crossfire users on here, I do recall consistent problems people were having with regard to stuttering. As tommy says, there is also the amount of memory to factor in as well at that res.

I'd take the 7850 anyday.

If he can wait a couple of weeks, might be worth seeing what the GTX 660 will bring to the party ...

Problem is, the GTX 660 won't be voltage-unlocked, in so, he'll have to wait even more for an unlocked one and I dun think that an OCed gtx 660 can beat a 7950 where as the OCed 7850 can (in some cases).

Just my two cents :D

well, the GTX 660 is suppose to be the direct competitor to the 7850, so either the pricing / performance or overclocking potential is going to be something special in order to stay ahead of the game.

Nvidia have nothing in the mid range apart from the previous gen, logic dictates that the GTX 660 is going to be slightly better than the 7850 in some way. Then again, companies are not always logical ...

Indeed. Much like the sub £100 range...Nvidia insisting on releasing cards that are poorer performance to price ratio than its competition...
