Are you a feminist?

Oh, and apparently it's ok for women to hit men, but if a man hits back in defence he's violent and abusive?

Umm, so you think that if a woman hits us it's okay to hit her back? I don't know if you've noticed but our muscle's and overall physique are much much larger than that of a woman.

Any man who hits a woman is a pure coward. I kinda like it when they hit me anyway, gives you a chance to make it all sexual.

Whenever have you read something where a woman has invented something that has changed the world? All pioneers are mostly man - and that's where the difference lies.

You don't think it is more to do with gender stereotyping of roles meaning women have not have had as much opportunity to innovate through the ages?

As to women inventions that changed the world? How about the compiler? That was invented by a woman.

To me that's a contradiction as I believe a feminist is someone who believes women and men are equal. I don't get why some people think the term only relates to a group of people who think women should be superior to men

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feminism

The word itself identifies only one gender. If you believe in gender equality why would you identify as a feminist? Do you think that as a man there are no equivalent issues for men?

In our university we have several women also studying engineering. While some women may become successful in that area it is highly unlikely that all will since women have a much lower level of creativity and imagination - That's a proven fact (Google the area yourself)...

Whenever have you read something where a woman has invented something that has changed the world? All pioneers are mostly man - and that's where the difference lies.

See that's just silly. Why have so few women contributed inventions that have changed the world? Maybe because they were prevented from doing so by society?

I hate to sound like a mouthy old trout, but seriously, women couldn't even vote less than 100 years ago. What chance did they have to go into science or medicine? No wonder there are very few women to remember in those fields - they just didn't get the chance.

I
b) they only believe in feminism when it suits them;

salary? should be equal
right to vote? should be equal
right to <insert x,y,z here>? should be equal

Expected to offer up their seat/open doors/offer their coat to a man? you must be having a laugh!
Offer to take a man out on a date and pay for everything? pffftt!!!
Oh, and apparently it's ok for women to hit men, but if a man hits back in defence he's violent and abusive?

Surely you mean only believe in feminism when it makes a real difference to their lives? Salary and the right to vote etc can't really be compared to not giving up a seat to a guy

To me, you're either a feminist or your not. You can't skip between the two.

Ferminism, to me is women having their cake and eating it.

I look around me at work and women here pretty much wear casual dress. As a man i am not even allowed to wear short sleave shirts. It is strange all the managers are women aswell and only women ever get promoted. I think the big boss here is scared of men(possibly because he is 4ft tall).

For example the sexual objectification of women that you see all over magazines, adverts, posters and strip clubs. It's ridiculous how women are brought up to think they should be wearing make-up, must make an effort to dress well etc. Women's magazines seem to portray an image of woman that they all should aspire too. A lot of them also spout **** such as 'top 10 ways to please your man' and other nonsense. Why is a woman's magazine all about him?

I hate this seriously, I honestly think society suffers because of this because there is still a lot of women that buy into this carp, A waitress in work left school aspiring to be a beautician for example, doesn't feel she is capable of much else, I see so many girls like this, so many women out there waste their time on this carp when they have the potential to help change the world, at the moment when you learn about history in school it's a man's world, I really dream of a day when children in our in schools are learning about history and events in the world dictated by men and women equally, help inspire them.

edit -

Why in earth is the word c r a p banned on here?, is it a competitor something?

The word identifies only the female gender because it relates to the movements of women fighting against hundreds of years of oppression, so that they could be equal to men. I would identify as a feminist because it is the gender that is not equal.

And where are these issues for men? Men are the ones with the higher salaries, better job prospects, they aren't giving lap dances, they aren't on page 3 and being exploited just for their body etc etc.

I would say I'd like to think women are equal to men, but in reality, they totally aren't and yeah some women e.g. Ellen Macarthur, Deborah Meaden and a few others make us men look pretty pointless but it doesn't change the fact that the majority of women e.g. Holly Madison, Paris Hilton etc... doesn't exactly do any favours for the femanist movement.

It's ridiculous how women are brought up to think they should be wearing make-up, must make an effort to dress well etc.

As long as my women waxes in all the right places, I don't care if she into DIY or other manly stuff like reading/folding maps or shooting animals lol.

TBH, as long as she doesn't start being taller than me I know I'm still needed, to reach all the things on the top shelves lol

Thats true to an extent but there have been plenty of women that have been trail blazers regardless of the situation they found themselves in. Plenty of men have been in horrendously oppressive situations and still managed to prosper in spite of that.

In general men are more creative than women I think but honestly, it not much of an issue these days. If you want to do something in this country, you can regardless of gender.

Nothing is simple when it comes to gender, there are usually reasons behind gender inequality. To ignore the circumstances that surrond a decision is just idiotic. Why are there not as many female CEOs as male? There is plenty of gender inequality that is unjustifiable but also some legitimate reasons for not wanting a woman in top management positions.

We are not the same and I hate the way that we artificially "even" the playing field.

I cannot understand why, for example, both the womens and mens winners at wimbledon are paid the same prize money. Mens tennis is better than womens and they play best of 5 sets instead of 3 throughout the tournament so why shouldn't they be paid more. They bring in way more money than the womens side of the tournament and attract more viewers.

People should be judged on merit, not on their gender. Men and women are not equal and both have their strengths over the other. Until we actually accept that, we will always have people complaining from both sides of the argument.

I recently split from my wife and there was no point fighting for custody of my kids as they will always side with the woman, unless she is an evil person.
there are many things women get preference over men on, so if they want job equality they should give men equal rights in other areas.
also, no one forces them to lap dance or go on page 3, everyone has choices.

Is there a similar term for a man? I don't think so. Men aren't looked down upon for being promiscuous, they're called a 'player' and seem to be congratulated. Why is that?

If a lock is opened by many key's its a rubbish lock.
If a key opens many locks it's a master key.

Saw that once and thought it was funny,... My actual thoughts are men and women should have equal rights, but too often do i see events where women get away with things men wouldn't.

Basically i agree that all legal rights should be the same, there should be no laws that differentiate, however that doesn't mean that each individual woman (or man) should be treated the same, just because they're a woman (or man), as someone else said, not going to take it when someone feels they're superior and can treat me like rubbish, just because they're a woman.

In boxing, there're different weight categories, do lighter boxers get paid less? Since heavyweight and lightweight are not equal.

Have you ever been hit in the face by a whale? It's not dissimilar to that of a hit in the face from a man. They shouldn't be hitting in the first place, the only reason they do is because they know they wont get hit back.

As long as my women waxes in all the right places

If you want her to do this because it's what you prefer, that's fine.

However, I think it's becoming more and more common for a woman to be expected to wax/shave down there. Why are they expected to do it? Women don't expect it of men!

Most of the guys I know don't mind a bit of hair, as long as it's kept neat and most women say the same for guys.

Would you ever sleep with a woman that didn't shave her legs or had hairy armpits? If you don't find it attractive then that's fine, but its when people say women SHOULD shave their legs/armpits that annoys me. Why should they? Some people don't care.
