Are you a feminist?

If you want her to do this because it's what you prefer, that's fine.

However, I think it's becoming more and more common for a woman to be expected to wax/shave down there. Why are they expected to do it? Women don't expect it of men!

Most of the guys I know don't mind a bit of hair, as long as it's kept neat and most women say the same for guys.

Would you ever sleep with a woman that didn't shave her legs or had hairy armpits? If you don't find it attractive then that's fine, but its when people say women should shave their legs/armpits that annoys me. Why should they? Some people don't care.

Because it's a social convention of beauty, men shave too, they shave their beards or at least groom them not to look silly, it goes both ways and has nothing to do with equality.

is it not also more hygienic for people to shave as hair traps in dirt and stuff.

No bloke likes eating bush to they? hairs in the mouth (VOM!)

Pressure or not girls feeling like they have to look a certain way e.g. hairless, surely isn't a bad thing? hairy women aren't attractive.

I agree when it comes to having cosmetic surgery or acting a certain way because they feel they have to, to fit, thats where I draw the line. No women should have to have surgery just to feel accepted

The word identifies only the female gender because it relates to the movements of women fighting against hundreds of years of oppression, so that they could be equal to men. I would identify as a feminist because it is the gender that is not equal.

And where are these issues for men? Men are the ones with the higher salaries, better job prospects, they aren't giving lap dances, they aren't on page 3 and being exploited just for their body etc etc.

I don't have time to go into it now, but it's actually sad how wrong you are. The presumption that the current male role is perfect and the one we should aspire to bring women up to is patronising to women and corrosive to men.
As for hundreds of years of oppression; do you realise that until 1918 not all men in the UK could vote?

Men issues? Here's a couple. Why do more men commit suicide? Why are more men in prison? Why do men lose out on access to children in a divorce? Is the gender role society has constructed and expects of men a healthy one?

Yes they do have a choice, but the choices some women have are so narrowed that they are forced into this kind of work due to being oversexualised by society.

really? I cannot think of any reason why it would be a 'strip or don't eat' situation. there are plenty of other jobs they 'could' do, but maybe these stripping jobs require less work to get into. im not saying I don't think women get exploited, im just saying that everyone has a choice, most will take the easier option and then turn around and say there wasn't other options.

I love feminists, in fact I've really enjoyed a few of those feminist films where you have two of them either end of a phallic piece of rubber.

In boxing, there're different weight categories, do lighter boxers get paid less? Since heavyweight and lightweight are not equal.

Generally, yes the heavyweights get paid more at the top level than the lightweights. Do the lightweights do less rounds by the way?

Its all business. If the lightweight fighters are more popular and will generate more revenue, they get paid more. If its the other way round, the heavyweights will get more.

You are basically advocating a completely flat sports payment system. You all get x amount because you all play the same sport. Don't worry about the fact that some of you are better or generate more income, we want to be equal. How can you pay 2 people equally who don't do the same thing and call that equality.

And I'm sure no women like eating a guys bush either. Why are women expected to shave their legs/armpits when guys aren't?

A very simple answer, because men find hairless armpits more attractive on average, while females, on average do not mind and in fact expect(prefer) to see hair on men armpits.

Both men and women want to be desired and act accordingly.

Hehe was not advocating that, don't put words in my mouth :p
Was a genuine question, I do not know how the pay goes.

Lets make it happen!

Society in some cases has made women think that their bodies are there to be used and its all they are good for. Some women aspire to be topless models for Nuts, because society has made them think that this is ok.

A good book to read about this is the Living Dolls: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Living-Doll...7093/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1339772778&sr=8-1

I asked my friend as to why many people seem to think feminism is about women being superior to men and this is what she had to say:

"We live in a patriarchal capitalist society which continually permeates these myths in order to maintain the control of a dominantly male elite"

You know I was raised in a low/midclass neighborhood and none of the girls wanted to be topless models.

My guess that girls who do want to be topless models are on the very lower scale of income / education and if we compare males in the same level of income /education what do they want to become, rappers? Equally silly "careers".

While some women may become successful in that area it is highly unlikely that all will since women have a much lower level of creativity and imagination - That's a proven fact (Google the area yourself)...

Ah, it's on the internet. It must be true then..

I still dont go for it. they have a choice to not be a topless model or whatever. society does not force them to, that's just crazy, else more women would be doing it.
I think its just an easy excuse for their laziness to get a real job that they don't like, ie. shelf-stacking, factory work......
