Anything worth seeing in Detroit?

A somewhat ironic combination.

Not really. People moved away due to the industry taking a nose dive.

buy tobacco products and cereal?

No. I am actually giving what I believe to be good pointers in what to do in Detroit. That is just what I did. The city has plenty to offer for 3 free nights, but not much beyond that really.

Unlike most/all posters in this thread I have actually been to Detroit!

Its only living in fear if you're overly worried... while I wouldn't choose to live there myself it wouldn't be too bad for someone who's really screwed up their life... chances of getting shot are still low... despite being higher than most cities.

YEs so you'd have thought the homeless would have started squatting :p

Haha yeah. Whilst I feel many have it too easy in the UK, seeing so many homeless without any medical care makes me think the UK is better than the US for the poorer.

Don't bother visiting 8 Mile road. It is just a road and is nothing fancy.

Pretty much a dump for the most part as mentioned, I visited ann arbor (college town to the west) one time and that seemed fairly nice. Theres some stuff to see linked to the motor and music heritages but it was a long long time ago I did that so don't really remember much (how much a sprawling dump it was left more of an impression).

So, not a lot then :)

Malls? Any recommendations?

I'm actually staying in Auburn Hills, just outside Detroit.

Will try and find the GM buildings then.

The best part about detroit, is watching it disappear as you cross the ambassador bridge into windsor, and even that's not a huge step up..

So... Dinner?

Made it to the restaurant at the top of the GM tower :)
Nice view of downtown and Canada on the other side of the river.
