My car is going in for a cam belt / water pump change next Monday, and as i'm 1000 miles away from my next service, i'm getting that done too, but i've negotiated a price for a service of £55 if i provide the oil myself (saving £70 minus cost of the oil of the normal price from the audi specialist doing the jobs). How much oil will i need and which is the best long life oil and where from?

Would it being a PD or CR make any difference?

That is probably a big noob question, but I am here to learn :)

£55? I take it this 'service' is just an oil and filter change?

Go to VW and get whichever Quantum is the right spec (the Platinum one I would imagine.) You will need two tubs of whatever, unless you could just get away with a 5l tub. Mobil 1 comes in 5l, most others come in 4l

Well it would have been £125 for the service if they provided the oil so take from that what you will, and it's an indy specialist doing it.

I've found the quantum '507' spec on ebay for £39 or i can get mobil 1 for £42 from halfords. Or castrol edge 4l for £46, think i'll just get the mobil 1 tbh.

i got the mobil 1 this afternoon, one less thing to worry about, paid £41.50 for it. I'd have got the castrol edge from eurocarparts if i saw it now!
