Help me decide which CPU cooler...

I have my Scythe Grand Kama Cross SCKC-2100. And find it awesome

Of course I can't say I have put it to the test, because I'm using an undervolted Ivy

it reaches 50 on 0.83V

But its a cooler that will give back to the whole system

Thanks for the suggestions doyll! ^^

Those are only a drop in the bucket. There are at least 30 coolers that will perform within 3c of the top five. Most of which I would know nothing about if other members hadn't posted information.

It's what OCUK is all about mate.:)

yes and any of these can be made to run 3 to 4 degrees cooler, it isn't hard to do, you only need a Phanteks if you are going to OC above 4.6, but below this and nearly all of the coolers here will do just fine.

i relapped mine again yesterday plus the CPU, once it's done the first time it only takes a quick relap to remove the scratches etc, mine gets scratched quite a lot because i remove it so often, plus the tight clamping doesn't help either

Tell me this guys will ya please,

These massive air coolers with dual sets of Fins and dual fans etc, are they not an absolute nightmare to clean when that nightmare cleaning time comes around every few months (or sooner if you not using filters etc) ?

I have to admit, that is one of the main reasons/things that put me right off these massive air coolers, plus the sheer size of them too is just starting to border on ridiculous, dont you think ?

Would like to hear comments about the cleaning of these things out of curiosity :)

p.s
I was thinking about buying one of those handheld electric air duster things, they look excellent man, if theres one job I hate its all the hassle of cleaning all the inside parts of a pc thoroughly, I think its everyones ultimate hate job isnt it, lol.

well yea you can see they'll be hard to clean, it's not only that, they block the RAM plus quite a bit of the mobo...... finally they look pig ugly.

1. No, unless you don't have filters at your intake fans. But if that were the case, your entire case would get dusty, not just the cooler.

2. No.

When I bought my 3570k I very quickly flipped the lid on it after getting rather high temps on full load when overclocked to 4.4ghz. Flipping the lid and then applying the liquid metal TIM lowered the temps considerably (over 15c which I found difficult to believe) when using a Arctic Freezer Pro 2 (£12) cooler.
Running at 4.4Ghz at full load it heats up to around 75c at most in a warm room, with extra vcore.
Considering that the TJ Max of the CPU is 105 that will do me. Also understanding that it will never get to those high temps when being used in a day to day setting other when running a stress test. I see little need to spend more on something which, for me, is not needed.

But others would want a more aggressive overclock and or cooling (and maybe not have the lid to flip) and thus they have to go to more exotic extremes of coolers if they wish to stick to the air type.

I would be extremely reluctant to spend more than I did on a cooler or have something as huge as some of the large ones you can buy, to me they look really OTT and ugly.

Each to their own though as there does seem to be a market for these humongous coolers.

With proper filters there is very little dust inside. Clean filters once a month and job done.

I had Noctua NH-U12P with 2 fans in for over a year. When I took it out to upgrade and "cleaned" it before selling there was just enough dust on fan to be able to see it. It blew off with compressed air in a single blast. When I blew out cooler I couldn't even see any dust come out.

My PSU is black at bottom of case and again just enough dust on top of it to see.

i need to get my graphics card back from RMA, so i can run mine on Prime and post up the results, because my previous results have gone since fitting a hybrid SATA.... everything has bloody gone ! :D

yes you need good air filtering, i used a pair of mums stockings :D and redid the front intakes, you also need very good case cooling, a good cooler will not work unless the case is very well ventilated.

i love messing around with my PC, almost as much as gaming. :D

the best cooler is still the Megahalems, i used to have one two years ago, i might buy another one, but right now i'm very happy with the Xigmatek Aegir.

but i cant shout my mouth off too much till i get those results uploaded here, then you'll see what i mean.
