Retrofit options on A4 - 56 reg

I have a Dynavin D99 in mine. It is available for the A4. I'd imagine its one of the few aftermarket ones thats worth the bother.

Thanks fox. Off to test drive today and by looking at it yesterday it was only lacking he sat nav.

Cheers

The worlds your lobster with VAG cars and retrofitting! a lot of parts need coding in though and might cost a bit to buy s/h.

There was a retrofit thread on here a whileback, paradigm started it iirc.

If you get the OE sat nav theres 2 versions of the RNS-E. The Mk2 has a better screen and can take bigger SD cards and will accept the Audi HD you can get. The MK1 is fussy with SD cards and won't work with the HD.

Having said that I think you may have to fiddle with faceplates if you get a MK2. I've got the MK1 and thinking of moving to the MK2 but will have to change the faceplate as its for an A3.

It can be done but I think it is a fiddle - fitting the RNS-E with the blutooth and all the gubins. Will also need someone to code it.

I've got an 08 b7 cabriolet.

I had Nav, bt phone and cruise retrofitted as soon as I bought it. All pretty simple if you know what you're doing. I don't so I paid the same guy that did my b6 s4.

Right guys...do you think it is a worthwhile thing to get the nav fitted?

Would I be better installing connection for ipod, bluetooth and then just getting a tomtom all for a similar price?!

What would you guys do?

If you can live with the NAV not being able to use UK post codes then yes. Otherwise the tomtom might be better.

If you don't know the address its a PITA. I had a real problem locating the examination centre where I had my last exam for work. Fortunately I'd been there before but could not quite remember the route. The NAV took me down the wrong road BUT it was named the same and the same number. Not good when you are already a bit tweaked up for an exam!

Most of the time its fine, other times we have had to resort to a phone to check location.

I would again point out the SD card slot limitation which can be a pain if want your entire collection on the 2 cards. If I could be bothered I'd swap for the MK2 but like I said its a fiddle and highly likely to land me with two knackered RNS-E of I mess up :)

To be fair, I've never had an issue with a lack of full 7-digit lookup, as nice as it would be to have. I assume the RNS-E system has similar to the full-blown MMI, in that you can do 4+1 postcode lookup (For example SK11 0, rather than SK11 0LR), which in most cases (assuming you know the street, and/or house number) has never let me down.

The one thing I would say though is that unlike say, 16:9 MK4 nav in an e46 3-series, the RNS or RNS-E retrofit to a B7 A4 doesn't "make the interior look loads better", as it looks far more like an add-in afterthought than the MK4 nav of the BMW. However, it's still better at interfacing with the rest of the infotainment systems than a 3rd-party system, and unlike a TomTom, you don't have to have nasty mounts and cables attached to your dash.
