What area do you think the next big breakthrough will be in?

For me I hope it's someone discovers a way to make an optical lense wipe with the perfect amount of moisture. Currently I have 2 types and ones too wet and the other too dry.

Oh how I want a happy medium (not Doris Stokes having naughty things done to her).

I feel like medicial diagnosis has remained stationary for a while, but not being a Doctor or a researcher I don't know if this is true but as a customer I feel this.
Or an other major jump in medicine and treatment.

Fusion, if they can build economically viable fusion reactors then it will be a game changer.

But then you have things like carbon nano tubes, graphene, bio tech etc.

It will almost certainly be in Energy......as that is the predominant area of concern globally, both for political and environmental reasons....

things that change our lives and new discoveries happen quite regularly

'big breakthrough is subjective'

no one really can give an answer with any degree of certainty to the question anyway, while some areas might have a lot of people working on them and a lot of effort being put into research you can't really predict whether any fundamental discoveries will be made in that particular area over any other.

I can see what you're getting at, something insignifant might turn into something bigger. Can't think of a current example though.
