Queens Club Tennis

Talk about digging himself a deeper hole. Not only does he show his rage and injure someone, not only does he talk in a press conference later about how he's lost his temper many many times, but he embarrassed himself in front of sue barker and the audience by publicly complaining about how there's too many ATP rules, they're inconsistent with their rulings and how the ATP put too much pressure on them to play lots of tournaments. Almost like an attempt to somehow defend and justify what he just did.
Aww shame, they have to tour the world playing a few games of tennis and earning millions. What an awful job to have.

I only noticed after about 10 times that it was actually his foot that caused the leg injury and not the wood.
Full marks to the linesman, if it had been a Croatian, Portugeuse or Italian footballer they would have been nearly dead while rolling over 85 times.

I was about to say the same, you can clearly see his foot making contact with line judge's leg. Utter plonker.

I saw this live. I was absolutely staggered by his attempt at an apology. "Yeah, I'm kinda sorry, BUT", straight out of the John Terry school of denial. He should have straight away asked for the umpires microphone and told the crowd what had happened and why the match was being abandoned, *and* done an unreserved apology. Bizzarely he would have come out of it looking like a hero if'd he'd done that, inspite of just whacking an old codgers leg. He was clearly in arse covering mode from the moment he did it. I was impressed by the no nonsense condemming of his "apology" by the TV commentators.

Cannot believe this lol!

What a truly idioting thing to do - ruined a perfectly good cup final.

Could understand him kicking a wall or something if there was nobody there..but to kick something like that with a guy sitting behind it? Daft.

He definitely kicks him in the shin after the board, but I doubt it was that that caused the wound. Police are investigating a complaint of assault apparently.

Fair enough to be honest, if somebody random did that to me then the police would be involved.

Clearly an accident with no intent to harm anyone. No way am I defending the player's actions but seriously, assault? There's only 1 reason this has been passed to the Police.... Money! But then I suppose its the world we live in today. :(

The bloke was injured whilst doing his job, i do think hes entitled to some kind of compensation.

I also reckon those advertising boards should be removed fopr the next tournament.

No argument there, and I think the club are liable due to the boards they have put in place being so easily able to cause injury. The player, whilst a proper plonker, has just highlighted a safety issue which in the end has injured an official. Police should not be involved IMO.

If someone kicked you in the shin at work without any kind of provocation would you just let it slide?

Was surprised by the crowd wanting the game to continue. I am sure most saw what happened.

That was shocking to be honest. I think they should be refunded for their tickets out of Nalbandian's pocket but there were bigger issues at stake than a game of tennis after he did what he did.

I beg to differ. The foot hits the wood hits the leg. That strange grammatical sentence is intentional :)

The other option I guess is to disqualify Nalbandian and then play Dimitrov vs Cilic in the final instead, and have current tickets valid for entry.

But then the Queens' Club has to pay extra running costs - maybe fine Nalbandian what it costs to re-arrange the final?

That way the crowd still get their match.

Completely agree, good idea. But, if that became an ATP rule, then ATP should foot the bill for Queen's Club extra costs (or Nalbandian as you suggested).
There's no way Queen's should lose out financially because of a rule by the governing body ATP being carried out due to stupidity by their player. It's not Queen's fault.
