The hubs on those R1s are brilliant. I used to find myself rolling up on people all the time when descending. They really are a great wheel.

The only issue is that if something goes wrong. Bespoke spokes and rims that aren't cheap (circa £30 for a spoke!) and the UK distributor (iRide) don't keep much stock so you might find yourself waiting 6 weeks for a shipment from Italy.

Yeah I'm loving them at the moment! I did have a search before I bought them, and managed to find a supplier doing r1/r0 spokes for around £9 each, so maybe I should get a few should anything go amiss with them.

dude, are you superman??? your average heart rate is 150!

haha not exactly, although I am training pretty hard at the moment, and getting into pretty reasonable shape. Schedule looks like this

where each row is week, cycle and swim on a monday, wednesday and friday. Numbers are in minutes.
Code:
M	T	W	TH	F	S	S	TOTAL	Vol
35-Swim	35-Run	46-Swim	46-Run	58-Swim	Off	58-Run	9h 19m
70-Bike 94-Bike 117-Bike 559m
38-Swim	38-Run	51-Swim	51-Run	64-Swim	Off	64-Run	10h 13m	10%
77-Bike 102-Bike	128-Bike 613m
42-Swim	42-Run	56-Swim	56-Run	70-Swim	Off	70-Run	11h 15m	10%
85-Bike 113-Bike	141-Bike 675m
25-Swim	25-Run	34-Swim	34-Run	42-Swim	Off	42-Run	6h 46m	-40%

Just a thicker rubber on the centre section and 320tpi carcass with 20% Kevlar. They can't be too bad if most pros use them for the spring classics.

I was mistaken before; there is a puncture protection belt in them made from something called Aramid. I'm now off to find out what that is.

Edit: Aramid; a portmanteau covering materials such as Nomex and Kevlar.

After fixing my snapped chain I noticed that i have nakard a spoke on my Mavik Askiums and they are now out of true at that point. What should it cost to have a spoke replaced on these wheels?

The spokes aren't like normal ones as they are straight pull. Mavic sell them in packs that are sided. So Drive/non drive/front are individual packs at about £20 I think.

Unless a shop has them already then you need to order them. I have loads of Kysrium SL, dura ace C24 and campag shamal ultra spokes as thats what local guys ride.

JonnyM,
Can you remember that DT Swiss spoke calculator wall chart?
If so, any ideas where I can get my hands on one from? Madison are always out of stock.
Thanks :)

-edit- scratch that. They're now back in stock!

Completed The White Rose Classic on Sunday in 8h20m - 115miles just over 3km climbing.

Was dreading it tbh training didn't go so well, but it must have been plenty didn't stop on any climb and passing people on the way up is such a buzz :D

Just a shame I'm **** on the flat bits.

I got the same result as you with a seat tube somewhat longer than my top tube, but this strikes me as somewhat whacky geometry for a road bike. Do bikes like this exist or have we cocked up our measurements? :p

For example, the calculator reckons I need a 56cm seat tube and 52cm top - a 56cm seat tube frame on a Planet X carbon frame gives you a 59cm top tube. Even a more relaxed frame like the Ribble Audax has a 56cm seat tube and 56cm top tube.

My current bike has a perfect length top tube (apparently) but the saddle to bar drop is extreme as a result and I've had to shorten my stem 3cm to make it rideable without debilitating back pain!

It's strange.

I'm not sure where to go or what to look for or what feels comfortable as I'm a newcomer to road bikes. How can I select a bike to splash over £1k and know its the right fit??
