Which Cooler

Hi all

I have a amd FX 8150 (yes i know not anyones favorite but i like) and i am wanting to get the maximum OC out of it could you please recommend a Cooler i currently have a noctua nh u12 and getting temps of high 70 on load using prime95

Spec:

Asus Sabertooth 990fx
AMD FX 8150 @4ghz
8gb XMS3 @1600mhz
twin frozr lll hd 6950
Crucial C300 64gb OS
Samsung F3 1tb Storage
Corsair hx 750w
Coolermaster HAF 932

if anyone has any overclocking settings i could try as well that would be helpfull

The usual suspect. SilverArrow, Phantek, Noctua NH-D14, with added not so usual, the BeQuiet Dark Rock Pro 2, K2 Mount Doom.

Careful with those though, they are a little bit bigger than the norm, the Noctual and K2 will fit most cases, the others are slightly taller.

It's good, but noisy when pushed. And you need space in the case (usually, roof, two 120mm fan mount, with enough clearance to the motherboard VRM heatsinks and RAM slots).

Very good cooler but as Olivier states it's noisy at the top end. I always spec it with two replacement fans which alleviates the issue but obviously costs more money.

The NH-U12 should give decent temps, had one myself 3 years ago on an i7 930 OC'd to 3.8GHz, got good temps.

Which orientation are you using? Push Pull or one fan?

If you decide to buy something new, recommendations as above, I've a H100 I'm happy with but thats OC'ing a Core i7 2600K to 4GHz, yes a mild OC but the temps are lovely and it keeps the system quiet.

thanks i think i will look at the noctua since i have a nh-u12 at the moment and it is a good cooler i currently have my CPU OC'ed at 4ghz and temps are mid 50s and want to push it a bit further

i have it set up as push pull temps hit nearly 80 degrees using prime95 when i clocked it to 4.4ghz so i dropped it back down

Going from U12 to D14 should give aprrox, 10c drop on prime.

I was using U12 push/pull and just changed to Phanteks (same spec as D14 really) and prime temps dropped 10c.
