Travelling - Any reccomendations?

What did you get for jabs?

Also, your STA flight - do you have to be a student?

Hey!

I already had a few of them, but ones i've gotten on top of my pre-existing vaccinations in terms of jabs are;

- Rabies
- Hep B
- Malaria (But these will be tablets)

I did query about Japanese B encephalitis but the nurse was convinced that when I'll be in Asia it's low risk season and I'll be in tourist (low risk further) areas regardless. I was happy about this, saved me 2x £80 jabs!

I've got all of the ones I was advised to get upon explaining to the travel clinic where I'm going.

Everyone seems to think taht STA is for students, it's not!!! I've not been a student for 6 years and I'm all booked up! :)

Just found out you can get your vietnamese VISA from bangkok, will be doing this, no way do I wanna send off my passport so close toflying!

I dont know if this one has already been mentioned, but if you enjoy Tigers, go to Tiger Kingdom near Chang Mai in Thailand, you get to go in with the Tigers and have a cuddle, they are fairly tame and there is none of this tigers in chains stuff seen in some of the other places with tigers.

Also got into one of the cages which no one was going to and the keepers started a play session with some of the younger tigers, was awesome fun

Also do the **** hill tribe tours as talked about earlier, really nice going up the hills on an elephant

So your spending 3 weeks in Vietnam and no time at all in Cambodia?! I'd seriously consider at least 1 week in Cambodia, for me and many other people we talked to travelling it was a better experience than Vietnam.

People were nicer, it's cheaper and some very interesting History along the way.

Cheers mate, am going towards Chang Mai to see the white temple (as reccomended from these very forums), will be sure to check out the tigers, elephant riding will be a must too!

Sorry the original post is out of date, it's looking like;

OZ - 2 month
NZ - 1 month
Thailand/Laos/Cambodia/V-nam - 7 weeks (will do a sweeping tour across from when I land in Bangkok and get the V-nam VISA sorted into Camobodia/Vietnam/Laos/Northern Thailand, then spending 2.5 weeks in southern Thailand with the misses
India - 1 month

Absolutely cannot wait to take in the history of Vietnam/Cambodia, as sad and depressing as it'll probably be (and I'm a bit of an emo with that kinda thing) something I'm most excited about learning/seeing first hand.

Looks brilliant TommyV, we got back from a 3month trip earlier this year and we are planning a return to Thailand at some point. Keep the thread updated with some pics from time to time. For a cheapish place to stay in Bangkok, which is right next to the train station and clean check out http://www.wendyguesthouse.com/evos/front/bin/home.phtml we loved it there and went back on our way past for a few days. 20p boat ride into Koh San Road area about 2mins walk away as well.

Added to favs :D
Did you read Lee R's while / since he was on sabbatical doing the same thing?

Also did you by chance know Steve Taylor who used to work over in St James A, he's been living out in the far east for a year now!

No mate, do you by chance have the link for it you can IM me?

I don't know Steve Taylor, I bet he's loving it!

Thanks UkAdder! :)

Ill try and keep my repy short

Australia - be sure to do fraser island nad witsundays
Thailand, do for 2 months or 3 and go to Loas for tubing :)
Go to Fiji - its amazing

I did (when I was 23)

Thailand 3 months
Oz - 2 months
NZ - 1 month
Fiji - 3 weeks
US west coast - 3 weeks
US New york - 5 days

Thailand was my favourite followed by fiji. Thailand was also very cheap for everything, like diving and stuff. Oz was better (IMO) than NZ. NZ was good but just for rafting, skydive, bungee and Aukland big day out was on whilst i was there!!

Enjoy, I miss it badly

Just thought I'd stick an update here as I've not updated the blog, and this particular hostel has completely free internet!

- Started in Sydney, spent a week seeing all the bays, the city and the whole touristy thing
- Weather wasn't great, so bought a $200 flight upto Cairns which paid off!! Here I went diving, upto cape tribulation and port douglas, as well as obviouslly seeing Cairns for a week
- Went to mission beach, not really a lot to do here unless you're sky-diving, saw a Cassowary in the wild on a trail up here though which was cool, if not terrifying!
- Currently in Townsville, have seen the city and will be climbing Castle Hill later!
- Next off to Magnetic Island for 2 nights at BASE hostel and then down to Aerlie beach to see Whitsundays in all it's glory! :)

PROTIP - OZ IS ****ING EXPENSIVE!! People will tell you it's expensive, but you've no feel for it until you're actually here! To put it into perspective somewhat;

(all converted to GBP as I can't find the key for it on this dodgey oz keyboard)

Mars Bar - 1.50
Can of coke - 1.75
A crate of 24 bottles of beer - 25-30
A pint - 5
A pack of 20 smokes - 13ish quid

Over and out

MAGNOLIA, where in NZ do you live? I will find you.
