Jimmy Carr overcome by grief

They might not be particularly good with money but I doubt they actively try to to waste it.

Roads, schools, public transport, police, defence, care, pensions, benefits street lights, rubbish collection, courts, prisons. Thats just a few of the things I quite like having.

I think that I am much happier in a society that taxes.

... Expenses!

Jimmy Carr should be left alone.
LEAVE JIMMY CARR ALONE!

Do you pay more tax than you have to? Or do you just pay the required amount?

That is all that he has done here, paid what is required, no extra. He has abided by the law.

The fact that DC has publicly attacked one person when there are many corporations and banks doing worse, and that his own father did this (and where most of his inheritance has come from) is the thing that shocks me! Look at the state of our government and, for example, the expenses fiasco. How can he keep a straight face and try and lecture Jimmy Carr on what is morally wrong?

i pay what i have to. im PAYE so i cant avoid tax in any way. philanthropy isnt something i can afford to get into, i wish i was in a place financially where i could help more. i am the only bread winner now my wife is looking after my baby and have been hit by the recession. i also have to help look after my father with parkinsons. i dont have any time to donate these days :(

i agree that DC also looks like a hypocrite now as we all know where his wealth comes from, much like his party donators. to be fair i would imagine labour also have their fair share and i think old tony blair is doing something similar. MPs made it pretty clear the contempt they have for us with the expenses scandal.

Jimmy Carr should be left alone. He's done nothing wrong and I'm sure there are many more people out there who do the samething..... There are probably even more people out here who'd do the same if given the opportunity!

Bit of a silly question but if I found a way to kill someone within the law, would I have done nothing wrong?

We change laws because people find way to exploit them or circumvent them so how can something like this be completely OK until the second a law is passed to ban schemes like this?

I don't see right and wrong as something that needs to be enshrined in law. Do none of the people who are saying that what he has done is fine think that anything that anyone did that contributed to the banking crisis was fine too.

The MPs expenses, all just fine because it was legal.

... I am always amazed at people's capacity to justify their ****** behaviour to themselves.

"Everyone does it"
"I have an excuse"
"Its not illegal"
Don't forget the other reliable cop-outs:
"You're just jealous."
and
"If I didn't do it, somebody else would."

;)

Ah, so you did. I didn't see that when I looked.

Thanks for calling me a '******', whatever that is.

You still ooze massive amounts of jealousy from what I can see. The OP is the worst of all.

as i say im not jelous. i actually think JC is one of our best comedians and have most of his DVDs.

i just find it annoying that the super rich are avoiding paying tax leaving us middle earners with the brunt of the burden. if we all paid our dues we would all be better off (apart from the evaders)

maybe i shouldnt have called you an apostrophe ;) but lots of comments here wound me up and you saying nobody does charity work was just BS. my wife used to donate 2 evenings a week to work with special needs kids and i used to donate 1 day a week to help those less fortunate with their IT skills to help them get a job.

not all of us are selfish gits. you just annoyed me with your comment but i apologise for flying off the handle.

If you voluntarily want to pay more tax than you need to legally, if it doesn't benefit you in some way to do so, you're an idiot. Simple as that. Carr had his head screwed on and so did his accountant.

Morality has nothing to do with it. If the government deems it "immoral" then they need to make it illegal and get it stamped out.

Some of it is, most of it isn't!

Funny you say that but we had a case that we came across recently and it seems that there are a lot of cases where companies actually negotiate the tax they pay.

Football is the worst I've come across - the way I've seen their contracts structured the amounts they actually get paid for playing football just because of the way it can be paid into offshore/European companies.

Look at Luxembourg, Switzerland and Delaware if you really want to find unpaid taxes!

could the EU nations throw Luxembourg & Switzerland out of the EU? are they in it? since they are effectively stealing from EU nations maybe we should look at this?

That's all fair enough, but my comment wasn't really directly aimed at you.

It was a general remark that usually (not always) the people who complain the most about these things do so out of jealousy, and would probably do the exact same thing as Jimmy Carr if they had reason to as well.

People just like to get themselves worked up over (what are in reality) little things, Stockhausen is the master at this. He also just posts and posts and posts and doesn't reply to anything which makes all of his threads a bit repetitive and boring. :p

Why is this news?

It's all legal and regulated. As with the 1000s of other persons who are in many schemes with many companies not just in Jersey (as with Carr) but many other offshore jurisdictions also.

Quite how Cameron can label a scheme, and I quote, "dodgy" that is fully disclosed to HRMC is laughable!

what happened to the lovely old rich people back in history that used their wealth to help society. philanthropy used to be something the super rich did.

i agree i wouldnt pay more tax than required (without schemes etc, im talking standard income tax) but i would look up creating a foundation to help people. people with learning and physical disabilities etc
