Anybody here own a licensed firearm?

Indeed M. My shoulder was black and blue off the no 5 but there is something about the .303 that appeals. Maybe I'm a masochist at heart.

The No4 .303 is a good target shooting weapon. It's OK at short ranges (up to about 400m), but at 500m and over it starts to shine. But it needs to be properly bedded first. Once done, the way the barrel is attached means that the barrel movement caused by the recoil is repeatable, making it very accurate for its age. After the old L1A1 came in snipers continued to use weapons based on the .303 for ages afterwards, until good ammo became scarce. It's certainly accurate to 1000m, and not bad at 1200m. That said, I've not shot one over 600m.

Von Smallhausen whats that black rifle at the bottom please? ta

It's an AK variant made by a company called Sega. It fires the standard NATO 5.56mm round and has to be manually cocked after every shot. The rifles to my left are a Remington 7.62mm ( green but I forget the model ) and the wood finish is a Parker Hale T4 which is still an excellent and very accurate rifle although they are getting on now.

I personally think the current laws on when you can carry a gun is reasonable, going to and from a club or shoot, purchasing from shop and for repairs.
Why would any one want to carry a gun other than for the above reasons?

Having said that, I don't have a licence as I only use airguns but I understand the rules are the same for air weapons and after purchasing a couple of airguns from the shop I stoped on my way home to go in Asda so the guns were left in the car. Would that be reasonable case for leaving a gun in your vehicle?????

with the unhinged mindset and war crimes that soldiers partake in and have I'd hate to see anyone with a firearm, never mind your average joe bloggs who uses the excuse that they like the mindless sport of killing animals in the forest.

umm, unhinged?, I would never aim a gun at a living creature, Human or animal but I understand why a farmer may wish to partake in a little pest control but as you say, killing just for fun is imo not acceptable.

In Catford, London I saw police openly carry guns and machine guns on the street.

Can you try doing the same thing please. When someone asks you to put them down in a loud clear voice (possibly through a megaphone), brandish them in a threatening manner. Thanks.

Quick question, do probationary courses have to be done at the NRA grounds in Bisley, or any certified club? There's the County of Lancaster club, and since Lancashire is about the size of a ten pence piece anyway, it's not that long a trek. Also a club in Blackburn it seems.

Von Smallhausen lovely guns you are playing with. I would love to add such ak to my home collection. Whats maximum ammo clip have you had in it? BTW are you allowed to shoot them in your own garden if its big enough say if you have 5 acres of space? thanks

They would have to be shot on Home Office approved ranges as far as I know. And do you even have a 'home collection' yet, or are you just dreaming?

And don't worry if they shout "armed police", that's just a standard prank around there.

Enfield has 5 round clip, Parker Hale 10. I would doubt you'd get permission for a rifle to plink in your back garden.

Could possibly be a model 700 with the AICS, (Accuracy international chassis system) stock, remember seeing theese in gun mart magazine a few years ago. Basically a remington bedded into the same stock as the british armys L96. The 700 seems to be a popular action, what with the usmc using it as the basis for the M40 series sniper rifles, and countless custom gunsmithing companys.
