Is it worth playing the first "The Witcher"?

2nd half of witcher 1 > witcher 2 > > > 1st half of witcher 1

The witcher 1 does end up slightly better in the 2nd half but by god you have to trudge through a lot to get there.

The weird thing is these days i don't think i would have time to invest in the first 15-20 hours to get to the good part. :(

You people implying the first half is dire is making me not want to play it. The second half may be great but i don't fancy a game that's gonna be a grind to get to the good stuff.

I'd say no. It has a lot of flaws that really stopped me from enjoying it. The second is a far better game.

I disagree ,first Witcher sets the story so when you get to play the second one you know the characters and can follow storyline better, the first one has some better things like cats eyes, potion making in first one is better, combat is not hard to master so all the complaints I find funny, basically you just choose style fast or strong attack with either steel or silver sword depending on mobs.

Story in first one starts slow but picks up once you get into the town so stick with it.

The first Witcher is a lot longer too and you get more then your money's worth,I will also say most of the bugs are fixed since the enhanced version was released.
I've finished both about 3 times(if I can finish both 3 times each then why can't some people get pass first part is beyond me in Witcher 1,stick to snakes and ladders or something simple ;) ).

Problem nowadays is too many people want dumbed down console easy to play games without using your brain or having patience to play, shame really because all the great games require you to do that.

Hated it at first, but after putting some effort into it, the game grew on me. Probably one of the best games iv played on PC! took me 40-50 hrs to complete. Awesome game.

So yeah it is worth playing, iv yet to buy The Witcher 2 and play that. Hopefully it pops up in the steam sale for a delicious price. :p

I tried, I really did. But no cigar.

This is how I felt with the first and second game. Maybe I was in the wrong mood to play them, I will try again because of the good things I hear about them.

Personally though just because it has prostitutes and violence doesn't make it more adult, I felt like it was what a teenager would add to make it seem grown up.

Theres a guy on ebay selling the witcher 2 for £9.99 russian version but it activates on steam so you can download the full international english enhance edition!

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/170822021265?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

Send the guy a message, to see if hes got any left. Instead of paying postage get him to send you the key via email.

Thanks for the tip, but ill try my luck with the Steam sale, iv got a few games to play through anyway.

The start of The Witcher was so dull! I've tried it a couple of times and it just bored me to death...

It was the start of the game that bored me to death to, but i gave it a 2nd chance and soon as i got past that part you mention the game got a lot better!

both great games for different reasons, really, but the first is my favourite personally and mostly because of the story - it's literally twice as long. I spent about 110 hours on my first playthrough and I know I didnt do anywhere near everything in the game.
