Is this door to door job worth it?

Basically I have got a job offer doing door to door asking people if they are interested in wall/loft cavity. The company is working on behalf of the government to reduce energy consumption by 2020 or they will be fined billions.

I'm told it's more raising awareness then selling as the product is free (but I think only if you qualify) if not you still get it for under £100.

I would be on £100 a week apprentice wage + commission which is £5 then £15 after so long. I would have to pay £20 rent, £20 board, council tax and work costs.

Is it worth it over £55 a week Job Seekers Allowance? If I knocked on your door would you want cavity insulation?

Haha thanks. Well apparently I will gain a GNVQ in sales and experience? I'm just scared of it going wrong and becoming worse off than being unemployed or worse I get sanctioned from JSA.

I've had people come and ask me if I've got my free loft insulation from the gov. To be honest it is quite annoying and a bit dodgy. But if you can deal with it, work is work.

Can't really answer you, mainly because I have no idea how old are you and what qualifications you have.

If you are 15/16 and it is your first job, then I would give it a go. if you are ~23 and you have a degree (or final years) then no, go onto something better, more relevant to your career.

You will be payed about £2.60 an hour to do door to door, this is nothing and really I am unsure if that qualification is worth a wage so low.
That's under £400 a month, £4k a year for a 40 hour job, that's ridiculously low and I can understand why people take JSA if only these jobs exist.

Hmm my advisor says if I'm good at selling it will be worth it from commission and I could get a job in sales at another company like DFS or something. My sister is totally against it she called me trying to tell me it's not worth it and I could end up with no commission and not be able to get back on JSA. She said it's too risky and unstable.

Wow that is low it's really sounding bad isn't it, I was just excited to get the interview it really is dead out there.

apprentice wage

Employers are just taking the micheal now. This is why people don't respect apprenticeships.

Worst of all I knew this would happen with the very weak regulation on apprenticeships the goverment is introducing. But people did not listen, because they all had rose tinted views of old craft apprenticeships.

I'm 24 and don't have a degree and desperate for a job but only if it's going to benefit me.

I'm not English, so technical abbreviations like JSA are unknown to me :P

I'll just give my 2p.

How are you going to be bound to the job? is it going to be on a contract basis? If you can get rid of it easily (so for example tell your boss you will stop working from the following week) then why not? Any job is experience. and any experience is beneficial. It makes your CV that little bit nicer. And like you were told, it may lead to something a bit more important in the sales industry.

If it is a 'fixed' job, then I would give it a miss.

Ideally, it would be a job that is a filler for a month or so until you find something a bit better. At least, by the time you find a better job, you would have gotten a bit (a VERY LITTLE bit, but still something) of cash and experience.

EDIT: I went to research a bit what JSA is. Am I right in thinking what I said is right? That its just a 'filler' until you find a 'real' job? Then yeah, go for it. Try as hard as you can to find something better though :)
Once again, if the terms like JSA nullify all I am saying, just ignore me :P

Well any job will benefit you. This will be a **** job, I won't lie, however, it is experience and plugs a potential gap in the old CV.

Go for it and look elsewhere while you're earning.

Good luck!

Your adviser is just trying to get you off jsa if it was worth it while dont he/she go do it.
Dont do it £100 is not worth it if you have to pay bills you will end up with nothink left.

I qualified for the free loft cavity installation and had it done a couple of years back. I think I had a letter through the post, perhaps enclosed with my yearly DLA award notification and I responded to that. It definitely wasn't via door-to-door sellers.

OP - £100 per week - how many hours is that?
