Well I had an email earlier about my apprenticeship application with Cisco, I originally had 1 interview but now I have a: technical interview, management interview, a group working exercise and a presentation.

"Prepare 10 minutes on a subject of your choice. Bring your material either on your own laptop or on a memory stick. Questions will last 15 minutes."

I'm struggling to come up with ideas though, it sounds like it could literally be anything!
Obviously needs to be something I'm interested in which isn't exactly much.. technology obviously, its not like I could go talk about rugby for 10 minutes though and depending who is listening, that could be really boring to someone.

So far I've thought of: "The rise of social media (facebook, twitter, linkedin) and the impact it will have on the way business is done". If I could talk for 10 minutes about it though, I don't know.

Any suggestions on a subject would be greatly appreciated =)

If you know about rugby then it isn't a bad idea to talk about that. If you play its about team work, leadership, the benefit of training and practice, the application of rules, the value of learning, the point of good conduct and sportsmanship. All these are values which people interviewing you will be interested in hearing how you apply in the workplace, particularly as a graduate level entrant / apprentice. Your presentation needs to show something about you, something about the skills you will bring to the job and something to make you distinct but not weird. Something you are passionate about will help you engage and shine. Something you researched to sound quite IT like might risk being a bit run of the mill.

You have to remember the people who are conducting the interview will have heard plenty of technical presentations on firewalls, networks etc. and most likely know more about such subjects than than you do. They are likely to me much more interested in something they know nothing about so why not try to teach them something new? The topic of the presentation is 'your choice' so there really is no right or wrong topic. Aim for something that you know a bit about, are comfortable talking about, and will make for an interesting presentation. If rugby ticks these boxes, then why not?

*Edit* The ideas above from Collider seem like a really great basis for a presentation

Is this a post uni apprenticeship? you could just talk about something that you had to cover at uni.
It's meant for those who have just done their A-levels.

Yes, I'm sure they would know more than I do if I did a technical interview, something I wanted to avoid really; though it's what I'm interested in most and I would most likely find easiest.

Rugby was just an example, I enjoy watching it (casually), haven't played it apart from the first few years in secondary school (hardly counts :p)...Not exactly in the position I don't think to do a presentation on it.

Will give it some more thinking today.

It's quite simple, make a presentation about something really unique that nobody listening will have much knowledge on, then if you end up saying the wrong info they will never know.

Its about how you present your self in front of others...not about the subject matter. Talk about something that your passionate about. I had exactly the same for my job now, talked about wakeboarding & kitesurfing for 15mins.

Even included a picture of me crashing into the water head first for some light humour.

Easy and confident; job done.
