Some may remember me asking for suggestions for a 7970 and I have decided to go for it. Without going over old ground too much I had a 670 which went back becuause of stuttering and I'm not convinced by the mixture of opinions on the new beta drivers, anyway...

I have decided therefore that I am going to go with a 7970 for now, my choices are between the following cards as I am able to pick either of them up from my local store tomorrow (I'm impatient).

So my question then to the panel is do I go for the Asus 7970 Direct CU II (1000 MHz core version) or the MSI Lightning 7970?

Cheers.

Hasn't the stuttering issue just been fixed??
Cant comment on the asus, the lightning is a potentionally v.good card, certainly looks the part and well built but for me, i think the drivers are letting it down, i only really play bf3.
If i had too choose i would still pick the lightning, cos i love its looks and i think its resale value could be higher.

If you don't need DL-DVI, the lightning.

If you want a quieter experience and can manage the 3 slot cooler then get the Asus DCUII Top.

Lightning all the way, the Direct CU II has nerfed voltage controls. AMD drivers have been fine for me.

The DCU II has nerfed voltage controls, but not the Top version, it has voltage control.

If you listened to the 6 series owners that never had the problem in the first place that informed forum members that it had indeed been fixed, then you would believe so, but no is the answer to your question, it still hasn't been fixed for everyone.

Ok cheers as always guys.

Regarding the stuttering, if you read the Nvidia forum it unfortunately does seem that a good percentage are still having issues.

As much as I loved the Windforce 670 I had I just don't want to risk having the same problem again.
