whats everyones opinion on the MINI nowadays? do people still consider it a "hairdresser car"? My dad is picking the above up, as he wants a nice small car to zip around, hes as macho as they come but ive always thought of them as girls car, would be strange lol. i was loking at modded mini's and some of them look real cool though and i think how are they girls cars??

Bit late now...

Only like the cooper/cooper s tbh.

Not bad cars to drive, wouldn't have bought the one though!

so if it was the cooper version itd be alright? it was between this and a corsa 1.2 sxi, so im glad it was this. But its jsut the stigma of girls car atatched to it

People that believe Minis are girl's cars are morons. Unfortunately most people are morons.

(Disclaimer - Yes I own a Cooper S)

I'd have to put my self in the moron category, they're a fashion accessory - my girlfriend has the cooper cabriolet, it's clearly very feminine, it's has coloured mood lighting. I cant stand the thing, it's so cheap and plastic inside.

Personally I think the Mini is a brilliant car. Handles well, goes well and most of all it's a fun car to drive.

Interior isn't *that* plasticy on mine either.

Despite all objections from me, my sister bought a 51 plate Mini One for £3000 the other week. It makes a strange whining sound which I think is the steering, it is very loud, how do I get rid of it? Also, the runflat light keeps going off even though it doesn't have runflats, can this be disabled?

I borrowed my mums for a month when I sold my ST. It is a Mini Cooper and I think everything about it is awful. Doesn't go up hills, interior is awful and everything is in the wrong place, trashy ride, no boot space, steering is heavy and the gearbox is rubbish and just to small of a car for my 6ft3 self.

I would say the mini was aimed at women and pretty boys. Though I couldn't care since I was driving about in a yellow one and still do from time to time (I'm far from a pretty boy).

My mother loves it though and my girlfriend also liked it and I suppose they do look funky.

Yes, look under the handbrake and press that button till the light goes off. Mind you this is in a mini cooper. Also get someone took look at her sensors as they are prone to breaking which causes this.

Fairly sure its meant to make that sound, Mini's I have seen have always had very loud power steering.

Ah ok I'll have a look.

Oh ok, the sound coupled with the fact that she said it was heavy steering made me think there was something wrong with it, but it is supposed to be heavy and loud? Mind you her instructors car probably had pretty light steering.

My girlfriend had a Cooper and while it could be a fun drive on the right road I always felt like a gayboy driving it. Esepcially if I was on my own! Could never get a Cooper S or a Works for this reason.

Apart from it's triumph of form over function and poor reliability.

Not in my experience. My wife had one for 4-5 years. Incredibly reliable, very good fun to drive, and perfect for the job of getting her to work and back. :)

Also very cheap insurance and tyres.

We had people queuing up to buy it when I put it on AT.

They all have a whiney steering system from new, dont worry. There is also no runflat light - its a tyre pressure light and it works with conventional tyres too. Pump the tyres up to the right pressure and follow the instructions in the manual for resetting the system.

As for your objections, £3k seems a bit low really but frankly the Mini is one of the best small cars around and is bags of fun to own. More interesting than a Corsa.

My gf has the one 1.6 and I have to say it's great fun to drive. Not practical in the slightest but imo I think the interior feels good quality. As others have said though if the cooper costs no more to run then go for that.
