Job center woes.

I went for any old job last september agency production line but im doing 8 days a month at the moment for £1200 take home the rest of the time im down here surfing in cornwall its great

Because if I went directly for those jobs right now I could be missing out on something better.

Get in a job, and also apply for others. It DOES take time to get into a work field which you will enjoy. However get what you can for the moment as being in a job is much better then, well, not being in one. You also gain experience working with people of different nature, and the confidence/morale is also boosted.

there is a bristol SEO company advertising jobs recently strategy marketing I think they are called.

relocating to find a job is quite common I had to move from my small village in the middle of nowhere 50 miles to the nearest city to find a job

Ive just got off JSA. They treat you like **** there, on my last visit my appointment was at 10:20 and i dident get seen untill 11:10....

Just Glad to be off jsa!

dude, thats nothing, I was booked in for a colonoscopy at 3pm, didn't get seen till 7:30.
there are times when you just have to suck it up.

I'm going to stand up for my local job centre, nothing but civil, professional, curteous people. I was actually impressed, but don't think for a second they will help you find work.

the difference is if your even 5 mins late at the jobcenter they will give you a free colonosopy.

God forbid you're ever late though! I've never been treated like such a **** as I was the only time I was late for an appointment.

You shouldn't have been late then.

Free money and all you have to do is show up once a fortnight on time... It's not hard.

Correct it's not hard but it happens, and I happily took it on the chin until I was then left waiting on numerous occasions even though I was their first appointment of the day and therefore they couldn't even blame their other appointments over running.

i think all the unemployed people should help out govt i.e. do jobs govt should be doing e.g. (and not limited to:) cleaning streets, parks etc. That way they will be able to save some money by not employing a paid person or is this a flawed thinking?

If you were working in fast food, retail or any other low level job there's nothing stopping you from applying for jobs. You'll be getting triple the amount you'd get on JSA, even for part time work. If you're able to work and you can do the job then take it until something else crops up.

The simple fact is that unless you are a paramedic or an investment banker (etc) then it is infinitely more respectable to have ANY job than none at all.

I would respect a McDonalds worker more than a dole scrounger any day of the week.

Pretty much my thoughts on the subject also. Finding a job is tough in the current climate, people who make 101 excuses as to why they won't take a certain type of job really get on my nerves. I'm not branding the OP that type of person, just talking in general.

Flawed thinking.

People get employed to clean streets and parks (Well, some offenders get court orders to do it). But by forcing people to work for their benefits you would be taking jobs out of the job market and in effect have a bunch of slaves.

Job centre staff are useless, was on it for 3 weeks a few years back, went to my "interview" and whilst sat waiting got a call from a job i'd applied for with an interview offer, they were still talking to me on the phone when my slot came up and the advisor got really arsey with me and said i shouldn't have answered it because i made her wait 30 seconds.

Then she was a complete cow whilst i was talking to her.

Funny thing is that interview which i went to the week after turned into an offer and i'm still there 2 and a quarter years later.

flawed thinking that is sadley already happening in local councils in the north west and costing jobs for guys who have been working there (agency workers) for a few years.

now if they had a voulentry scheme where you could do 1-5 days of cleaning your local area and helping improve it then that could work. use it as a extra set of hands cleaning up things the council just doesnt have the money to do. NOT as an excuse to save money by letting people go.

also the guys saying you should be there on time at the jobcenter, things do happen and you can be late. iv never been late yet but i have turned up litrally 2 mins before my apointment time and had one of the staff have a go saying i need to be there 10 mins before. when i asked why as iv never been seen on time once they got all ****y and said "its the rules" hence now if im ever waiting more than 10 mins to see anyone i kick up a stink about it, if they expect me to be early they can at least stick to the times they give me.

but saying that i went down to my jobcenter tuesday to hand a form in, they open at 10am. they actually opened the shutters at 5 past and it took me a further 10 mins to hand the form then i had to sit and wait another 10 mins.

and people wonder why jobcenters get a bad name.

The council doesn't hire people directly to do such tasks. They outsource the work to independant companies these days, such as FOCSA.

If you see a bin man or street cleaner they will actually not be a council worker themselves, but they will work for a company which is used by the council.

Councils don't hire people to do menial tasks (directly).
