Fastest graphics card?

As it now stands, neither are faster out the box with the new Ghz edition.

It's neck and neck in the real world for the real folks@1080p.

Deal clincher for me now would be PhysX or when you go above 1080p when memory starts to become an issue when you add in maximum IQ via respected control panels.

Current 7970's are all going to do what a Ghz version can with a simple push of the sliders in CCC or Afterburner for probably considerably less cash though.

Unless you can get one considerably cheaper than the other pick what one you like.

Have to agree with this - in realworld useage performance wise theres no significant differences between the 7970 or 680 depending on the exact game your playing or clockspeeds of the card you go for/whether you overclock or not might swing it one way or the other a little but in general there is nothing in it between them.

EDIT: Driver versions do swing it a bit theres been some big changes for both cards where different driver versions have changed the performance in some apps by 10, 20 even 60% so recently a review could feasibly show one having big gains or losses in some titles one day and be a completely different story the next.

Hi there to answer your question the fastest out of the box GTX 680 is the KFA White editions, both boost beyond 1200MHz, which is nearly 200MHz faster than a stock 680. :)

To be honest if you looking to spend that amount of money on a video card I would be looking at the cards that provide the best warranty and customer care in which case I would be eyeing cards from Gigabyte, MSI, EVGA, KFA2. Sadly the AMD only brands like Sapphire and Powercolor have awful reputations for customer service and this is one area that Nvidia has a clear advantage which not even the most loyal AMD fan could argue against.

That's just one review, about 5 other reviews say that the HD 7970 Ghz is the faster card on average by about 5%, Nvidia fans will have a hard time swallowing that though..
Is that specifically limited tp 1920 res though or does it include higher res results? Cause majority of people don't care about results of higher res, but only interested in getting a high-end card that can hold (or close to able to) hold 60fps at 1920 res.

Either way, it still doesn't change the fact that both GTX680 and 7970 are overpriced and poor value.

Yes the GHz version is. Can you buy it yet? I suppose you could get a factory overclocked 7970 but you can also get an overclocked 680.

As the OP prefers NVIDIA, I would go with a 670. Like Rusty says, Look for the highest clocked card in that list but dont forget it is safe to push sliders (no voltage tweaks so no bricking the card).

It is easier overclocking a GPU than you think :)
