I put the build together on Friday, the only new component was the Asrock Z68 Extreme4 gen3 I bought from OcUK, the other stuff I bought on the MM, i5 2500K, RAM, Noctua cooler and graphics card.

I used my existing Akasa Eclipse case and Akasa 1200W PSU.
All went very well, overclocked using the boards BIOS auto overclocking, passed Prime95 for about 6 hours.
Windows7 install perfect etc.

I decided to plug in the Asrock usb3 port to the header and installed in the back.
I had of course turned off as normal and unplugged the power cord and waited for a few seconds before plugging it in to the board.
Turned on the pc and heard a little "phut" sound followed by a slight smell.

Now nothing works, at first the fans spun for a few seconds now nothing.
Is this a case for a board RMA?

Hey sorry to hear of the problem you've had. My first thought was your psu especially if nothing comes on, do you have another you could possibly use to check this?

unplug the usb3 and try again. Hopefully you haven't use the wrong header. or the case USB3 port shorted. But it sounds bad.

Also, switch off the PSU, and unplug the mains for 10 minutes or so and try again. Without the USB3 header :)

Thanks.
I don't have another PSU sadly.

Yes I unplugged that first off, also tried leaving it about 15 minutes, still nothing.
The PSU is receiving power, the red light on the back of the PSU comes on but I suppose that proves nothing.

That's bad luck I'm afraid. CMOS reset maybe, and unplugging everything not vital (GPU, hard drives). Unless you can get your hands on a PSU to try as well.

Does the board display any kind of code when you try a boot?
