So mad at pets@home

Chinese dwarfs generally will live together. They will scrap occasionally but on the whole they're pretty social with each other. It could be boredom that's causing it, especially if you've only one wheel.

Syrians however will not tolerate another and need to be separated by 12 weeks old.

I've had 4 C/D hamsters in a cage together and they were fine and I even got them to the point where they'd hop on to my hand for a choc treat.

Aslo had a Syrian and he got to the point of tame that I rarely fastened his cage which was pretty big.

Looks like my old one :)

I really dislike pets at home. They sold us two Russian dwarf hamsters that were actually winter whites, even though they said they weren't.

Then, a few months later we found out that one was a male, even though they were both meant to be female.

Within 6 months one died of an infection (have kept many hamsters before and never had a single problem).

Within 12 months the other died from multiple tumours.

Will not be buying for pets@home again.

TBH I didn't want to get them from P@H, we was passing by but I have been thinking and reading up on getting two for a while. Its really painful that I have to get rid of one, its a shock that they would do a special offer on two pets that are likley to fight. By the way the small cage.. the top one on the photo is the one that they said would be more than fine.

Hamsters are the nastiest little gets.

They chew everything - their cages constantly - especially metal bar versions.
They will happily nibble bits off each other.
Despite the above they will breed ferociously and then abort their young.
They will eat their own young. Not all of them - just enough to leave a real mess.
In short they are real **** heads.

If you have nothing constructive to post in this thread then don't post in it.

...What???

I've owned hamsters - In my experience they are really difficult to keep as pets.

Friends have had similar experiences with other small animals.

Where is your beef and why the orange warning????

My offering to this thread - legitimate I think - was to think twice before taking them on which is a responsible attitude --- no?
