Virgin Media Discussion Thread

It's rather funny that VM advertise on the TV and do leaflet drops yet we can't get cable in our area. Must cost a bit. I was going to send them a polite email mentioning this but tried to contact them on the website appears that they only want to be contacted by people who are members and also who are interested in signing up with them.

Shame really.

Iiiiiinteresting! Did not realise that modem had a 10/100/1000 LAN port. Good to know, will try and keep hold of it when they upgrade our area shortly :)

If I'm not mistaken it doesn't support multiple upstream channels so once the channel bonding work is completed shortly everyone will be forced to have a superhub anyway

R36 beta firmware seems a lot better. also wireless performance is much better i get full 100Mb now on wireless

Hi gareth. How do I go about updating to this R36 firmware? My wireless speeds are fine, but when I do speedtests at sites like speedtest.net, it completes the download test but the upload part of the tests report errors and don't complete. This is only wireless, it's fine wired. While it's not a big problem, would the new firmware fix this? Since it's beta, could it cause issues?

it can do 4 upstream, virgin are only worried as they may use more than 4 ds chans in future, everyone on virgin forums that kept this modem is gettin full speed, those with superhub have loads of issues

The VMNG300 (old 50Mb modem) has 4 downstream and 4 upstream channels, so on Docsis 3 the maximum limits are 152Mb/s downstream and 108Mb/s upstream - so for 200Mb yes we will all be forced to use the Superhub sadly.

Since I got Virgin to reactivate my old VMNG300 a few weeks ago after terrible issues with the Superhub (in modem mode I might add), everything has been fine - no power cycle required every 3-4 days etc.

What are you guys paying for VM services? My annual retentions deal is about to expire and I need to ring and get a new year contract again to get any sort of reasonable price. Currently I get:

50mb (which will go up to 100mb in time apparently)
Talk Evenings and weekends
TV XL
2 x V+ HD boxes one up one down (Not TIVO)

And my bill comes in at about £70-£80 per month including phone call costs.

I want to stick with Virgin but don't want my bill to go up £15 which it will do in July.

Ah yes. I knew there was a reason for it possibly not working soon

Premier Collection £58.90 will get one of your boxes upgraded to TiVo 1TB, 60mb broadband and talk weekends. you can upgrade the phone to evening and weekends for a small additional cost.

Does anyone know what the difference between 50mb, 60mb, 100mb and 120mb stm is? Confusingly my area says I will get upgraded to 120mb, yet the website only does packages which have 30, 60, 100. Which is it? If I bought now would I get put on 100mb speeds straight away since my area is supposedly not ready for a while?

you won't be able to join the closed beta trial now.

but most likely once it goes public it should fix most people issues

have u tryed disabling your firewall/anti virus?

I had a guy the other day that had a similar issue and he thought it was his computer but he was using a 802.11.g wireless card. Once he tried 802.11.n it worked fine so it could be an incompatibility between your NIC and the hub.

Did you change the wireless speed to 145mbps from 300mbps?

I have just received an update. This has been raised under Fault reference F001989772. Work to resolve this issue is currently scheduled to take place on 11/05/2012 (although this may be subject to change).

I seem to be missing out on this software malarky, when I check my router the software version is coming up as V5.5.2R30

Have I missed out on 5 updates?

This is a superhub with hardware version "2.0".
