O'Dwyer is not a US citizen, his site (TVShack.net) was not hosted there, and most of his users were not from the US. I don’t understand why America is trying to prosecute a UK citizen for an alleged crime which took place on UK soil. If there was a crime it should be investigated and tried here in the UK, not in the US. (LINK)
Much as I dislike theft, I dislike even more America's belief that it can demand the extradition of a British citizen for not having committed a crime in America and Britain's apparent willingness, even enthusiasm to bend over and adopt the position

yeah he should face a british court as he actually committed the crime here, no doubt our government will sell him out the the U.S and he will end up in some hell hole for 25 years

How much money did he make again?........

However, if he did not commit a crime in the US then he should not be extradited there to stand trial for a crime he did not commit....however, it is not as simple as that, becasue of the global nature of his business, he did break laws in the US and we do have an extradition treaty that would see him stand trial for that....ignorance of the law is not a defence of the law and whether the law (treaty) is unfair or not, it currently stands.

It should be mentioned that he knew what he was doing when he hosted links to material that breaks copyright laws, so he is not entirely innocent in this...the problem for me is the wider issue of extraditing British Citizens to the United States in a one-sided treaty and on that basis alone I have signed the petition.

Yup, this is a serious issue!

Signed, it's a ridiculous US inclusion into our civil liberties. It's still debatable that running a links site is even a crime, so why on earth Richard is facing the prospect of being extradited to the US is absolutely ridiculous.

But he HAS committed a crime in the US as he has taken US material and ripped it off. So what's the big deal?

Don't do the crime if you can't do the time :)

Driving over 55mph is a crime in the USA.

Perhaps they should extradite you for every time you've driven at 70mph?

Do you see yet?

Agreed, just because he's not American and doesn't live in the US doesn't mean he should be able to get away with sharing/distributing American content.

No, that's a crime in the country you drove in. That's not even remotely the same kind of thing.

He has stolen US material and redistributed it. Allegedly of course. Like stealing a car from the US and shipping it over here.

Did read about this somewhere else and seem to remember the basis they were extraditing him on was not the copyright infringements as they are civil issues. They are using some strange money laundering angle on the advertising revenue he made from the site to justify extradition which is dubious at best.
