***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Thread***

Just noticed something on my White GS3. I appear to have a small hairline crack on the silver surround part of the phone casing. Its on the left and right but much more noticable on the left side. Its about half way down the phone about 1.5cm down from the volume buttons.

Anyone else have this? Is it a fault and should I take my phone in to get replaced?

Anyone using Ivona on this phone? I tried to use it with the Nav but it seems to use the Samsung speech even though I have Ivona as default. Same with S Voice :(

S-Voice will always use Samsung's engine. For Google Nav, restart the phone after first running it. It will then use the default TTS.

right what a nightmare today for me managed to sort out everything
i followed the guide for rooting and unrooting the phone
firstly i rooted the phone but it still didnt have an software update,

then i tried reverting back to the stock rom, but also used triangle to reset the flash counter, but i used orange branded rom on my tmobile phone which wasnt the right one and looks like ****, next got the right unbranded rom
which i used, but it didnt work out good
because there was no csc number at all so that means i couldnt select the right region,

so i ended doing a factory reset and then re flashed again and hey presto the everying was there including the CSC num, had a look to see it the soft update was now there and it was....Great so now i am updating to the latest firmware from samsung Kies

so happy days again!! :D
thanks for the help guys!!!

For future reference you can get the modem and csc files from here:

Does anyone else have an issue where their message tones cut off earlier than they should do, varied in time?

Sometimes I get a millisecond of tone and sometimes it cuts off just before the end. Feels like an Android thing rather than the SGS3 as I am sure I can recall my ICSed HD2 doing it also.

Any ideas?

Ok so ive been rooted for the past couple of days, managed to get pinball hd which is only for tegra phones working on my SGS3 so far so good.

But i dont know if anyone has mentioned this but i find the default volume a tad low even at max....is there a mod that i can flash to my SGS3 which will boost the volume and audio??. If so can someone link me to one and give me an idiot proof version of doing it??...would rather not mess with scripts unless i desperately need to.

Is anyone else having issues with the phone restarting, well, the 'shell' restarting?

I'm on Omega 6 and it seems to happen after 30 minutes or so of bluetoothing music and Google Navigation. I'm wondering if it's over heating?

The shop here has FINALLY got the Galaxy S III working models in stock, so I've just had a nice long play with a blue and a white one, and...

I much prefer the blue. I don't think the white is too bad but the small black border around the screen is far more obvious and the 'brushed' effect actually seems quite stylish in person.

As for the phone itself, it feels really nice to hold, it doesn't feel cheap at all, which came as a big surprise. Someone said the home button felt really cheap like on the Galaxy S2, but I thought it was okay, not quite as refined as the one on the iPhone, but fine in general.

The screen seems quite a lot better than the Galaxy Nexus (I took mine to compare :p), so that's an obvious bonus too. I'll have to use it for a while until I can judge whether I prefer it to the One X screen, but from what I've seen I'd be happy with either (as I've said before).

Unfortunately the blue model isn't available until the first week of July so I'll get mine then. :)

Overall I was impressed, despite being disappointed when it was announced (like many of you).

Oh wow Rob finally managed to see the s3 in person. Glad you pretty much had the same first impressions as most of us owners. I must be one of the few who didn't think the s3 looked bad at all. Ans I still don't. Although I do think the white s3 does look better than the pebble blue. Really dislike the pale blue rim.

the blue rim can be solved by using 3M wrap :p

My fake rock case does a decent job :D and its nice that Rob is joining the S3 gang. Still waiting for a stable CM9 Rom myself so my phone is mostly stock (just rooted). Have to say that I don't see what people complain about with touchwiz. I find it a bit more useful than sense (one x) for most things. I'm surprised how much of the Samsung apps I use but definitely a great feature that all smartphones should nick - smart stay. It works (85% of the time) and is so bloody useful.

I'd be all over AOKP if it weren't for the lack of camera features I have to say, I read there is slight shutter lag compared to Samsung's camera app and that obviously there are no effects modes like on Samsung's one either. Such a good camera deserves matching an application to match!

All smartphones can now :p

Well for some anyway :o :p

Works superbly on my 1S, but it is kind of pointless as it is useless in dark conditions (when lying in bed with the lights off), which is when I would use it the most.

It will be interesting to see if google provide this feature with jellybean.

Remember, when Samsung announced Smart Stay I said it was a cool feature that would be used by many yet some folks called it a gimmick!

I personally still think it is a gimmick :p, thought it was pretty cool at first though as in a gimmick kind of way :p, but after using it for a day the "coolness" wore off :o :p, uninstalled that app after 1 day of use. If only the front cameras could see our faces/eyes when in dark conditions then it would be more useful but for now the screen time out (15 seconds) or/and manually locking the mobile does the job just fine :p

It does work in ambient dim lighting, at least it does for me. Obviously not so dark you can't see anything but dim enough to be used in a room with soft lighting anyway.

Maybe the app you used just isn't advanced enough yet!

Now get some proper games :p

NOVA 3, GTA 3 etc. Asphalt 6 or Real Racing 2 if you like racing games. :)

No it works great the app and works great in any lighting apart from in dark dark (pitch black) conditions :p That is when I would need it the most as I do more reading in bed with the lights of.

I like the SmartStay of the S3. The issue most people have is they hold the phone too close to their faces or (in landscape mode) they inadvertently cover the camera. The phone has to "see" your face and it then picks up your eyes from that, if it is held too close then it cannot pick it up.
