Just browsing the news and noticed an advert on the main page. How long have they been there?

I always thought that people outside the uk got adverts when they went to the site but people in the uk didn't?

Doesn't our license fee pay for this?

Or you've got malware maybe that's inserting things into pages locally? Depends what sort of ads you're getting I suppose, as to which is more likely.

They're mis-detecting your IP perhaps? Or you're running through a proxy you shouldn't be? Where does this site say you are?

Says UK.

I get that when I am at work as our internet routes through Holland (at least it shows up as a Dutch ip address). Also stops you from watching some of the videos as they are only for the UK.

Well I see the BBC didn't waste any time generating more revenue. Those dirty heartless profit obsessed capitalists. Is this BBC Trust approved? Are they doing this on the sly ?

They've been doing this for years and is only served to users who have a non UK base IP. Although I don't know what is happening in the OP's case.

Really?

People outside the UK don't pay licence fees so they should get the ads. Enough said. I'm sure this will be trust approved and any extra revenue generated this was is better than my licence fee going up! It makes no difference what so ever to me as I don't see the ads :p

There's no such thing as a UK ip, just lists of IPs used by isps for UK customers.

The lists aren't perfect.

I can't explain it then. You geolocate to the UK. Some IPs are known to be located in other countries but geolocate elsewhere, that's not what's happening with you.

Have you tried a different browser? Perhaps a cookie has been set, or there's some kind of control set. Assuming you're not using iexplore but you are using Windows, then give that a shot?
