Adverts on BBC News website

When I run a proxy app - hotspot shield, the ads comes on the pages, you have something similar or you probably have malware like other people have said.

Are you by any chance an illegal immigrant? If so make sure you don't accidentally have a webcam switched on, this web2.0 is very smart these days.

I can't explain it then. You geolocate to the UK. Some IPs are known to be located in other countries but geolocate elsewhere, that's not what's happening with you.

Only on that list, the list the BBC use may well not be the same.

If he thinks he has malware proxying his connection why not try some whatismyip type sites?

Indeed, there's around 4 lists commonly used. However if he shows up as UK with a proper location on 3 out of 4 then I'd put a considerable amount of money on him showing up on the 4th. The lists are usually right, it's only for funny IPs - you can buy French servers which are located in France but geolocate to Poland for example - that it's wrong. I've never seen them be wrong for ISPs.

That's essentially what he's done. He's connecting from Virgin, which means there's no malware proxying his connection - or at least it's only doing it sometimes.

IIRC there is a contact form on the BBC site somewhere to let them know if you're in the UK bit getting the "international" version of the pages (IE the ones with ads).

I've created a thread here about this. I don't think this is malware as it happens on my laptop, desktop (a fresh install of win 7) and my phone connected to my wifi.
