Recived a lovely letter today from Sussex Police :( dated 25/06 for a offense on the 17/05 was doing 37 in a 30.

Now this is my first time in about 10 years of driving that I've been caught. I remembered reading that normally if you don't receive a letter with-in two weeks you should be ok. Now it will be six weeks on Thursday since the incident.

It's a company van that got caught, registered in my name. Although the letter was sent to my parents  my driving license has all my current address details on it...

Can anyone offer any advice? I've not got the letter with me just a quick photo from my sister. Will be picking it up tomorrow for a read.

They must serve notice on the registered keeper within 14 days.

Are you absolutely sure you are the registered keeper? It would be odd if the van is a company van.

Sorry I didn't make it clear, your right iam NOT the owner of the van. The company is and/or the lease the company are.

My mistake.

The original NIP will have gone to your company and they will have informed the police of the driver at the time of the offence, It will have then been sent on to your parents (I'm guessing your company have your parents address down on your file)

More than likely going to have to suck it up and pay, But check around first.

If its your first offence in 10yrs of driving then surely you qualify for the speed awareness course instead? Silver lining after all ;)

I got one when I had a company car and yes all they have to do is notify the company. You could always say it wasn't you driving and get someone else like your mum or dad was driving. Either way someone is getting 3 points and a £60 fine.

I am waiting for a NIP to come through the post :(

I had a trick up my sleave which hopefully worked though (which it will not but i can always hope)

If I got this right, then yes, as per other posts, they have 14 days to get the letter to you, unless they cannot immediately get hold of you. In your case, it being a lease vehicle, you not being the RO, means they had to find out who was driving the vehicle at the time.

In this case, you're screwed. Suck it up and pay :)

After 14 days of no NIP i will reveal my brilliance. :p

That means when i receive my NIP i will tell you my fail

If you'd bought that ST instead of the VXR none of this would have happened. Everybody knows ST drivers are respectable well-mannered drivers, not like you VXR yoof :p
