I have a Nokia n900 smartphone, which I purchased in late 2009. It's time for an upgrade and I have decided on the Samsung Galaxy S3. I've been waiting for a month now for the 32GB and 64GB versions to be released in the UK but I can't find them. I checked Amazon.co.uk and Play.com but they only sell the 16GB versions. I am not interested in contract phones or ones with a locked network. I want to use my ASDA mobile sim in it which is Pay as you Go.

Does anyone have any idea when the larger capacity versions would be released in the UK?

Thanks

Not heard anything specific about dates yet. Could you not get the 16GB one and stick a 64GB card in? Or do you specifically need the larger onboard?

Sometimes a contract phone works out cheaper overall then PAYG, so it's not a bad idea to buy the contract even though you will never use that contract sim.

or ones with a locked network.

If you root the phone, you can unlock it very quickly for free.

I've not seen a 32GB or 64GB model in stock anywhere yet. You might be waiting a few more weeks.

I use about £5 credit in about 2 months. Trust me, Pay as you Go would work out cheaper! What is rooting the phone? is it safe? how do you do it? I have a 32GB card here now that I will use but more onboard storage would be nice. Also it would be worth more if I sell it later as most impatient people have purchased the 16GB version. If I have to wait a few more weeks, I don't mind doing that. Assuming I want to buy the 16GB one, where would you people buy an unlocked one from? Amazon are usually cheapest in my experience, is this the best choice?

What I meant was, you could still use your PAYG sim but rather then putting down £500 or similar for a PAYG handset, there may be contracts available where you can get the handset cheaper... but you don't have to use the contract sim.

I picked one up on contract recently and in total it should cost me ~£420 over 2 years, but I use my PAYG sim in the phone. :)

You sure it would be worth more when it comes to selling? iPhones in larger storage levels are worth more because there is zero expansion, this isn't true for the SGS3 by a longshot and by the time you come to sell it the price of cards will have dropped 50% again anyway so a larger card will always be cheaper than more storage.

32GB is out on voda today for the record.

An SGS3 for £420? Where did you get this from?

You want SGS3 without mobile network? or do PAYG include decent traffic nowadays? Or you only intend to use it through hotspots? other than that I can't see any reason to go with PAYG on a super smartphone.
Otherwise get the 16gb and ad a 64gb Micro SD.

£90 handset (£40 cashback)
£15.50 a month x24 months.

The offer has now gone though, the handset has moved up to £135. I posted about it several times in the official S3 thread so people knew it was available.

PAYG £10 a month with giffgaff gets you -

unlimited internet
unlimited texts
250 anytime any network mins

Beats most contracts hands down.

Heh this awful but I'm now wondering if I should try to get the 32 Gb model. I've used up over 8 gigs on my 16gb so far. Admittedly I could easily uninstall 2 games and reclaim 2 Gb back but I've been spoilt by all my electronics giving me ample storage without needing to worry. Ah, to think that I use to make do with 8 Gb on my pc 15 years ago... :D if I had a bunch of spare cash, I'd definitely get a 64gb s3 + my 64 gb microSD!

I never had 3G internet, only ever connected via wi-fi. It would be nice to access the net wherever I am. What's the best contract deal out there now for the 16/32GB Galaxy S3? I want to spend under £500 total.

Honestly, I'm still struggling why you would need the 32 when storage cards are cheaper. Is the extra 16gig REALLY REALLLY worth it? Assuming you buy a 64gb card you're only gaining 20% more storage for what will probably be an extra £50. This is a horrendeous deal, I would highly advise you do not do it.

I'm thinking if the 32GB come out, the price of the 16GB would fall just like the price of the white 16GB fell a little when the blue was released.

I want to have all of my apps, including games, on internal storage. External storage is for media. I don't want any apps to stop working if I take the card out and I want to be able to put a different card in with different media.

Games can take up to 2GB now; the ~12GB available on the 16GB S3 just isn't enough.

Your needs may differ from mine and therefore 16GB may be more than enough.
