Hi guys,

So I'm starting a new job which will involve me commuting to work every day. The trip is 25 miles motorway (60 MPH average) and 13 miles suburban (35 mph average)

My question, not knowing much about cars, is would a smaller engined diesel car such as a 1.4tdci fiesta give as good mileage on the motorway over say a 1.8 tdci focus? Would the fiesta be screaming and thus be using more fuel?

My thought process is that such a small engined car is better suited to urban driving but I am not sure, i obviously want to get around 60mpg but am worried that a larger engine would guzzle the fuel more when driving in the city.

Thanks for the help in advance :)

I spent a little while driving a 1.4TDCi Fiesta pool car from work to site and back (~35 mi away) and it is an experience I wish never to repeat. I averaged 58MPG without even trying to be gentle on it so it was good on fuel but repeated long journeys in such a car wasn't good on me.

That was another concern of mine, my mrs has a 1.2 zetec fiesta and although nice for short journeys i imagine such a small car would be a little claustrophobic everyday of the week doing 80 miles!

Definitely.

What do you drive at the moment?
