anyone own a st 170?

I would only recommend buying an ST170 if you really want that specific car. The interior isn't spectacular, as it shares almost all parts with the zetec model, with the exception of the seats, rev counter and gear stick. There are quicker cars out there for the same price, and will do the job just as well if not better.

Don't forget the, -30mm springs, oil pressure and temp gauges!

If it didn't have so many common niggles and was a bit better on fuel, it'd be a great car - but it really isn't :(

Yes, i forgot the springs were part of the interior...

Differences with the Zetec model in general mr clever clogs... I'm not sure if you're being difficult or you have an extra chromosome. Even the shock absorbers are the same, there's nothing really special about it other than it has a bit more power and it will cost you about 10x more to run.

But I wasn't talking about everything that was different, I was merely talking about the interior, but ok then:

Exterior:
- Colour coded bump and side strips
- Honeycomb upper and lower grill
- Fog light fitments and surround
- Rear spoiler (on some models)
- 17" multispoke alloys
- Smoke surround headlights (unless Xenon's)

Interior:
- Half leather seats (unless Recaro's)
- ST dials
- ST Gear Knob
- ST pressure gauge
- Aluminium door handles
- Variable wiper stalk
- Interior light (with map reading lights)

thanks for all comments , tbh i think iam better of keeping this 1.4 focus for a couple of years ( only done 70k and ive done waterpump and cam belt on it , if it lasts that long lol) to get my insurance down , then maybe i can afford something abit newer.

Harry love the car mate , I wish i could afford the newer shape Rs they are stunning cars.

i would be surprised if the 2.0 had enough torque to make a mess of the flywheel in a hurry.

golf had them from 98 onwards, ie mk4. its only the turbo and td ones that mash up their flywheel consistently

See how much a 172/182 comes out at? Fun nippy cars and silly cheap.

Not silly cheap to run, servicing and parts are fairly high for the type of car. cam aux belt every 40k i seem to remember?!

They are good on fuel though and fairly reliable, mines on 186k and the only thing that doesnt work is the AC due to hitting a badger :)

Cambelt is every 5 years and aux belt every 3 years (I think!).

Mines due a cambelt and 72k service in November and i've been quoted £932.97 (including dephaser pulley and water pump) up to now by a specialist.

Apart from that they don't cost to much to run.

I wouldnt say it was - it's not an early 90's car or something is it? My car is the same sort of age and has a dual mass flywheel....

You drive a premium brand luxury barge rather than a warm hatch though, much greater emphasis is put on NVH in that kind of car.

Neither the Clio 172 or the CTR had a DMF, and even the most luxury version in the Focus range at the time also didn't have one. It's just another thing to go wrong in a already not especially reliable version of the Focus. I only mention it as a friend asked me to go and read the fault codes on his ST a while back which ended up with a new actuator for the variable inlet manifold being fitted at vast expense and now it's just started making suspiciously DMF-like rattling noises when he starts the engine.

Things that wrong on a mates ST170 at 4/5 years old

Persitant coolant leak
Clutch and flywheel replacement (Expensive)
Issues with tracking

Thats what I can remember, fairly sure there was more

I think the interior was quite naff, it didnt feel like it was a 170BHP car

Consider a Corolla T-Sport, more power more reliable and similar money, might not handle as well if you get a prefacelift but thats easily sorted
