Any electricians on here? Question about wiring my house to run on batteries.....

You worry about dirt and sweating and heat, and now you work on a farm all day in overalls?

This thread has gotten weird, anyway batteries aren't the answer.

Believe me mate I've been hunting high and low for over 3 years. I was a qualified IT techy at one point but getting a job with no experience when there are over 200 other people applying for the same job isn't going to happen.

Fair enough it's a tough world. With what your pouring into your folding and what not, could you not just save up instead and teach yourself some new skills/go abroad?

I'm not anti folding or pc usage, but it does seem to me that it's doing you no favours.

:)

Haha, I'm not covered in soil I generally wear overalls all day and wash my hands quite often. However unless I get a bath, which to be frank when I get in from work seems like quite a task :D, I couldn't guarantee I don't have the parasite on my person. I would much rather foot an energy bill than burn my skin off, again.

Have a shower? How can you possibly sleep when you haven't cleaned yourself first? I've spent a summer working in the garden all day every day and I can't think of much worse than not having a shower the second I got inside.

Surely if you're sleeping *slightly* dirty, because you haven't sterilised yourself by taking a bath then you're running the risk of this infection anyway?! No wonder you got the infection in the first place if this is the case. Washing yourself everyday seems a lot less effort then changing all your linen every day, let alone the cost!

Yea I realise the aircon is for you and not the pc but if you move the server out then your room will be cooler; meaning you'll be cooler and the aircon won't have to draw as much power.

Also if you're out in the fields getting muddy all day you don't need your amp on all day; nor do you need the server on all day. If you indeed don't have them on all the time when your not using them then I can't help but think you're exaggerating about your bill. If you do have them all on all the time when you're not using them, well there's part of your problem!

Well one of the 200 people obviously got the job so why couldn't that have been you?

I think you are talking out of your arse re: getting infections from soil on a farm.

I've been knee deep in cow **** my whole life, we have all sorts of animals and vegetation here as well as all your usual pesticides, herbicides and what not. I've never had a serious infection. Bashed my hands / knees / arms more times than I've had hot dinners when trying to fix some random piece of machinery that's broken down for the unteenth time so have had plenty of opportunity for that to happen.
Overalls in this weather!! Just get your shorts and wellies on and get stuck in. **** will wash off you know..

So,
1. Stop the folding and turn the damn PC off at night for a start.
2. Take a shower or a bath when you get home you peasant.
3. Forget trying to run your gaff on batteries.
3. Spell sores correctly!

This is really not a practical idea. But if you have a stream or windmill possibilities then maybee.
It is possible to regenerate batteries greatly extending their lives

1. Already done, try reading the thread first.
2. I bath every night, try reading the thread first
3. I'll let listen to the experts first, not some dairy farmer: And before you say it, I've worked dairy for some time in the past, it's **** work that pays **** all to both the workers and the owner.
4. Learn to count and I'll spell correctly.

Oh and one last thing, if and when you do every get scabies, let me know how ****ing painful it was to burn your skin off. I'm sure as someone who sounds like they take **** all responsibility to their own personal hygiene (Seriously no overalls on a dairy farm? I wonder how many of your herd have mastitis...) you would love to have it.

I do bath every day, I'm quite the same as you, couldn't bare not getting one after slogging it all day in the sun (or worse). I merely meant that when you're drained of energy even small things seem difficult, but man does it feel good to soak for half hour :D

Also my "server" remained on 24/7 folding, with the recent rise in energy cost's I've been looking into the best way to reduce costs without shutting it down. However, as many people have noted it's probably going to be to expensive to do anything other than shut it down, or simply foot the bill for it.

Sorry I must have missed something; I thought you said you washed your clothes and sheets everyday because you dont have the energy to shower and that's why you washed your sheets everyday? If you're washing everyday as you've just said; surely you don't need to wash your sheets?

I was also going to suggest buying more linen.

If you have to wash your bedding everyday, why not buy like 7 days worth of sheets? Its got to be cheaper than the daily water and electricity bill.

There are clothes for three people in those washes just to bulk the load up to full rather than having just a few bed sheets in there.

As for buying more I'd rather not, the duvet cover alone was just over £100.

This may sound disgusting but I shed more than double the daily average of most people, if you saw the amount of dead skin that accumulates in just one night on my bed you would be disgusted. That's on top of someone who also sweats quite heavily, and I'd rather not be sleeping in my own bodily fluids.

End of the day you are prepared to spend a obscene amount of money on folding, be it energy usage or batteries running your house..

You are beyond help from us in any way other than what little info you have been given.

By that logic I should be changing my sheets every other day, since I (assume) I shed a normal amount of skin.

Plus bodily fluids...I don't think the forum needs to know about how you spend your private time in THAT much detail ;)

I'm not prepared to do anything, I'm merely looking into an idea someone else had to determine if it's applicable to my situation.

Why do you need £100 bed sheets?
Even with good quality bed sheets, if you are washing them everyday then you are going to end up ruining them fairly quickly anyway.

Are they some kind of special skin condition sheets you use?

I've also got to agree that if you are worried about the price of your electricity bill, then running computers to do folding is pretty pointless. Plus you said you have a server farm drawing 1.5kw. Are you running a business or something that you need that to be on for?

Hmm sounds like there could be an interesting project for ocuk on here no?

For a motivational point of view, why dont you come up with your annual budget which you currently spend/have previously as clearly there is a point here where you dont really notice the -ve cashflow.

Next get something to measure each circuit. For example, how much does your lights circuit use/cost - what can you do to cut that down? How many fridge's/freezers do you have - can you get rid of some, or would investing in a newer model that is more efficient be useful to you?

If you want to carry on folding, would it be cheaper to rent a server to do it for you?

Also like some have previously posted - lighting for example works fine on a 12v circuit, would you be interested in building your own DIY solar farm, enough to power your lights, and then buy bits and bobs here and there when the market price is right?

You could also get a low cost controller such as the raspberry pi to monitor your power production/usage.

I would even suggest monitoring your power consumption more closely, and look at other areas you could possibly cut back.

Sounds very interesting.

Like others here I am sceptical you will see a return on your money, but don't know enough about the subject to give any advice.

My biggest concern would be on the legality of it all, in theory it sounds legit, but energy companies really don't like you messing with your power.

Either way, keep us updated!
