***The Official Samsung Galaxy S III Android Development Thread***

So is it worth flashing my SGS3 to the siyah kernal that seems to be highly regarded over at xda??

If so what sort of improvements will i see?? ive installed the volume hack and im sure i read somewhere that supercurio/voodoo are working on an audio hack...is this true and if so any ideas when it will be available?

Will this be possible soon?

A basic version of ICS but with the Smart Stay feature and maybe a few other additions? Or will Devs always just stick to plain ICS?

I would just like a clean stock Samsung ROM that has been deodexed so I can use themes on it :D

I found one but people were reporting issues with it so I avoided. Seems strange for a stock ROM dump though!

I've been having a few issues with Omega recently
Email and Facebook messenger notifications aren't working. Few others have this problem but I'm not sure of a solution

Off OMEGA now, on Wanamlite, I had Wanam 'longtime' on my S2 and it was great so I feel it's only right to have his ROM on the S3 as well :p

I'm using the LF5 modem though which seems to be rather good. On this ROM at work my mobile network reception is -79 to -83 whereas before on OMEGA it used to be -85 to -91. Don't know why ROM change would make a difference since modem has remained the same but there you go.

Edit*
First day's battery consumption so far and still at 42% left:

I've used the phone quite a bit, some youtube in the morning, online gaming around work, browsing, emailing, flashed some CWM packs hence the absent line on the graph, listened to music on the walk home/ Connected to both mobile network and Wireless-N (150Mbps) throughout the day.

So having been rooted for a few days now, ive installed the audio hack and cell standby hack.

Is there anything else that i should be looking at ie mods wise??

Anyone know how i can edit icon labels??...some of the app icons i have on my homescreen have pretty long names and with Android it cuts them off so looks rubbish.

Im rooted at the moment and i remember someone saying something about editing app icon labels etc. How do i do this??

That's more launcher specific, not rom. Nova Launcher has an option in the home screen menu that let's you remove labels :)

Ahh right ok got ya...thought it was something you could do when being rooted. At the moment i have TW launcher and also apex launcher, which i havent had a chance to configure just yet. Might get cracking on that later tonight.

Benjo is it ok if i trust you later, have a few questions about titanium back up and would appreciate some help.

Wont be able to do it till later tonight though.

So what is the best ROM to use that has full functionality of everything that the stock rom has + extra nice things!?

Do we want it on or off?

I'm T-mobile and sometimes jumps to Orange. I just worried that one might support it and the other not.

I had my phone on over night and it was only losing 0.5% per hour, thats with mobile data and sync on.

Going to do the same again tonight with it switched off.

But had it off all day and it reduced the Fast Dormancy wakelock.

WHat on earth is fast dormancy?

From what I can make out, it is the ability for the phone to drop from H to 3G quicker when off which saves power. It changes it from a 30 sec delay (disabled) to a 7 sec delay (enabled)

Both phone and network have to support it
