Hey all,

Can any AMD 7970 users please help me?

I recently bought an MSI HD 7970 Twin Frozr IV card but I seemed to have a lot of problems with it, and I'm not sure if the card was faulty or just not working very well with Trackmania 2 - Canyon?

My main issue was that all the clouds in the sky seemed to always be flickering in a patchy kind of way which was really distracting, also I seemed to have odd random small objects flashing up and off again, and also shimmering of objects at a distance, especially fences etc... My previous card (MSI GTX 470 Twin Frozr II) never had these problems!

I also had the flickering patchy cloud effect on the Heaven 3.0 benchmark program, which I don't remember seeing before either?

So can any HD 7970 owners please let me know if you have these issues too, or any others as well, as the card has now gone back but if its a faulty card then I may just buy another 7970 as otherwise I really liked the card.

Thanks for any help you can give,

S.M :D

I really don't think there are going to be many people who have played Trackmania on a 7970, extremely specific thread here OP. :p

I played Trackmania 2 on my sapphire 7970 and I don't remember (haven't played in over a month) having any graphical issues with the game.

All the in game settings were Max.

What drivers are you currently using?

I tried 12.4 & 12.6 IIRC, I'm now on a GTX580 and having the same issues, but I really don't remember having the issue before I got the 7970??

I have the same cloud 'popping' effect in the Heaven Benchmark program (3.0) so if anyone has the same in Heaven thats the effect I'm seeing in TM2?

I'm on a clean windows install, so could it be something else in my PC thats faulty, ie Motherboard? Could overclocking the graphics card damage the PCI-e slot? No other graphics on the 580 seem to be affected?

played last night on 7970. it runs like **** on the high water reflections at 2560x1600 for some reason but not getting your problems with 12.4 official

Yep I play Trackmania 2 all the time and I've just installed my Sapphire 7970 at the weekend. No problems with the game that I've noticed so far.

I'm using the 12.3 drivers (apparently, even though I'm sure I downloaded the 12.7 ones...)

Can you do me a small favour please? Load up the solo mode, track A01 and on the last straight from the top of the hill, wiggle the car left right etc whilst driving (slowly to catch the effect more easily) whilst checking out the clouds, do they 'pop' or flash in patches? I normally turn around at the bottom of the hill and drive up again to see the clouds easier (when I'm testing new settings while trying to solve this)

Its bugging me to death, my fave game is spoiled for the moment :(

Just tried it, and yes the clouds do seem to pop/flash. It's very subtle though and I wouldn't have noticed it if you hadn't mentioned it.

It looks like the cloud layers overlap suddenly and then go back to normal.

Right, Track A01 tested, watching the sky the whole time...could popping.

The only change in the clouds I noticed was the colour of them would slightly change depending how I angled the car, for instance at one angle they would be white, at another they would be grey...

Aha, so I'm not going mad (well maybe!)

For some reason its very noticeable on mine, and its off putting, I've seen it some youtube videos and its less pronounced in them, just as you are describing. So maybe I have something making it worse?

Thanks for checking for me, really appreciate it :)

So, just so I'm clear, you've noticed it as well? So it seems then its down to the game?

I can't believe I didn't notice it before, but its in my face all the time now?

Thanks for checking too mate :)

Yeah, I just played around on the last long straight, going up and down and could see the cloud texture/colour change dependant on viewing angle.

Tried mucking around in the advance graphical settings to see if you can kill it?
