** Wimbledon 2012 - 25th June - 8th July **

Justine Henin is sorely missed, the best player since Graf. Hingis was also a quality player who had all the shots.

All three of them played smart tennis and could actually volley - they used tactics. Unfortunately we're now stuck with brainless ball bashers like Maria "105 decibel" Sharapova.

Twas a miracle Ivanovic won a slam and was world no1 for a period of time. She sort of popped up for a bit as a good player then went back to being average again. Seems like a nice girl but about as tough as wet paper.

Azarenka's brand of tennis isn't particularly attractive, but boy, is it effective.

That said, Ivanovic has all the strength and resilience of a damp tissue. A shame really, as she's much easier on the eye and the ears.

Is there a point in interview tennis players?

My opponent played great.
I played great.
My next opponent is playing great.
Everything is great.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Azarenka has matured and become a pretty good player but with women's tennis most, if not all of them can mentally kamikaze at any given moment so it's not a given. The top half of the draw is basically going to provide the punching bag in the final for whoever emerges from all the prior slam winners in the bottom half.

Hingis/Seles/Henin were about grace and skill. Much like Federer.
Williams (both of them) and Sharapova are about power, much like Nadal/Djokovic.

For me, Graf was the overwhelming dominant player of her time, combining skill and athleticism. I think Seles was the next great player of her time. Her problem came when she got stabbed during a match .... YES, you read that right!

I also am amazed that Hingis retired from Tennis (her first career) at such a young age. How old was she - 21? That's the sort of age is where people reach their peak and begin their Tennis career, in earnest.

I am glad that 'ova is out. I'm not a big fan of her Tennis or her alleged good looks. IMO, she should've been warned about her grunting a long time ago, yet the Tennis authorities have allowed the grunting to continue.

Personally, I am waiting to see Djo vs Fed. That's the match I want to see.

And with regards to the night games at Wimbledon - how I wish we could have a 5pm start to the Mens Final, under the roof on Sunday. The atmosphere would be electric!
