Hi all,

I am sorry to bore you with what has been asked a million times already but here goes...

Up to about 2 years ago I was a very happy iMac 27" and MBP user. Sadly I got switched back into gaming and sold the 2 apples and went back to pc gaming More fool me I know (hangs head in shame)!

At this point in time I have realised the error of my ways and am in the process of getting rid of my PC once and for all!!!

I am resolute that I am returning to apple but am not sure what to go for... Ergo my post here today seeking some advice. I shall precise my needs for computing first.

Whichever mac I choose will become my only computer. It will be used primary for web browsing, some pages work, lots of iTunes (external storage covered), and maybe some very light gaming such as Diablo 3 or similar. I am in no way expecting or want this machine to run games, main reason to go for air is that it will remove the temptation also.

Right now I am veering towards a 13" macbook air base model but upgrading to 8GB ram. My request then please is opinion on whether a macbook air 13" 8GB, 128 SSD et al will suffice for my needs... Or should I simply go for a base 13" model with 4gb as I will not be gaming/editing movies or pictures...

In anticipation...

Thanx

Can you give a rationale for the extra 4gb please?

As above, it's something you can only do at build time - it will extend the useful life of the machine and also make it easier to sell if you do you want to get rid of it.

Thanks for the replies.

Jry... You play any kind of games on it at all? I am curious how Diablo 3 performs, as I may have a dabble from time to time. I have a 3rd gen iPad also... How do they play together?

Cheers again.

Id go for the 8GB of ram it has made a huge difference in my main machine 27" iMac.. just need to get around to adding to my MBP. Im sure the Air would run Diablo fine just like my MBP 13" 2011 runs World of Warcraft fine.. although within 10 minutes my fans are screaming and temps are 80/90 degrees If I carry on thrashing it.. It just restarts! Cooling is a major issue when performing tasks which are onboard graphics intense.

nope, sorry m8. Don't play games at all :)
The screen is very nice and apps are nice and snappy. I have an Ipad 2 and all seems good :)

There are a few videos on youtube of people playing various games on the new macbook air. Typically performs okay on low settings for several games, but as others have said expect the fans to kick in.
