gtx 680 lightning or gtx 680 asus dcII top better?

MSI lightning imo. Cheaper, almost the same factory oc, better warranty, dual slot and more likely to overclock higher. No brainer really, the TOP is £90 more than the lightning which makes no sense to me. Get the lightning :)

Get the cheapest one - there isn't really much room for manoeuvre on 680's as voltage is locked and also temperatures are barely an issue even with reference coolers.

Think there is a bit of voltage adjustment on the lightnings though, or they are hoping there will be with the next installment of afterburner. The lightnings seem to be hitting 1300-1350 MHz regularly in a thread over at overclock.net. I would go for the lightning at the price it is today, is bound to hold its value better and may have increased voltage control shortly.

Seemingly the Lightnings offer upto 1.3v, the asus is locked at 1.175v. I'd go with the MSI card for warranty more than anything.

I've heard about this. Wonder if the voltage control will be available to all 670s and 680s since it's just an afterburner update. Don't see why it wouldn't be.

Because the voltage controller would need to change.

That's interesting - didn't know that. Thanks.

Ah I see, never mind. I'm interested to see how the lightning 680 will perform compared to the 7970 lightning @ stock and oc. Is there any reviews showing this?

@ voltage control, I read on the evga forums (in an msi lightning thread) that evga_jacob hinted that Nvidia stipulate that there should be no software voltage control for the 600 series, and that any custom voltages for custom boards should only be applied through aftermarket hardware (EVBOT). He seems to imply that EVGA have chosen to stick to this rule and MSI have not.

I'll post it up later but I'm off out now..

Should be an interesting read as seemingly the MSI 670 PE also gives 1.3v. MSI could probably argue the lightning PCB is aftermarket hardware.

If your buying now there is no contest, the lightning is £90 cheaper at present, and i'd still pick it over the asus for the better customer service
