We have none ATM and I'd like the peace of mind that having some would confer. My wife's family are French and we travel there several times a year, so I need good European cover as well.

Is there any particular company I should consider? Or are they all of a muchness?

TIA.

We use Green Flag, but thats because we sometimes tow a trailer. Used them twice (in this country) and they turned up quickly. The second time they were 10 minutes over the time they said they would be, and we got a cheque for £10.

AA Roadside Cover , £40 ish for the year , had a bit of cash back from quidco as well.

Also i have cover from my dealer for the 1st year of having the new car , obviously i had the AA cover ongoing.

My wife has used Greenflag for the past couple of years. Be careful what type of cover you choose from them and if opting for the cheapest choice from their list ensure they cover the provide is adequate for your needs. We've never needed the European breakdown service so I comment on that, but on the two occasions she's called them out they took 90 odd minutes to reach her and they couldn't fix her car at the roadside

Got our renewal quote through from them just last week and now their asking for £81.00 compared to the £27.00 we initially paid! I'm sure many others will be along soon to sing the praises or shout the hate re XYZ company but the short story is it pays to shop around bud. ;)

You will probably find you need to buy European cover seperately - almost nobody includes it as standard.

ADAC is a good shout for European cover at £79 with lots of additional benefits like onward travel, hire cars, hotels etc as well. It works in the UK too but is of limited use as they only pay 200 euros for recovery - which wont get you from London to Newcastle for example. If it breaks abroad and the car needs to go home that counts as repatriation not recovery so isnt affected.

Make sure you get at least Relay (or the equivalent) which will take you and the car wherever you want - the normal Roadside ones typically will only take you up to 10 miles to the nearest garage. Not ideal if you're hundreds of miles from home, on a homeward leg at a weekend! You ideally want your vehicle recovered to a garage local to your home!
