I've been given the opportunity to work in Pakistan

So many people would turn an opportunity like that down , as long as follow home office advice or security if need, I would jump at such opportunities. It's also only a week.

Hills full of terrorists? I wouldn't much fancy that.
Umm. Wow.

I went to Muree about 2 years ago. It's not "full of terrorists".

I'm not denying there's terrorism in Pakistan, but it's very localised. To see a pic of a massive mountain and call it a "hill full of terrorists" is stupid.

Yeah if i don't agree to go there we'll go to another place. We have business in lots of countries and most of them don't need to have armed guards posted 24/7.

nice - what are the other possibilities then? I feel a poll coming on :)

I failed to tell you that the lads I referred to are in the military though, so armed guards were a necessity really. As said I also think it depends what region you will be visiting. Maybe contact our high commission over there?

I'd love to go there, such an interesting and vibrant country. You're being pretty short sighted in my opinion. The only country I'd be slightly cautious about visiting would be Somalia, anywhere else I'm game for.

I'm fairly surprised by the number of responses saying no. I'd go and experience the place first hand.

I'm surprised by the lack of responses saying no and I've only been here a while....

Some really beautiful places in Pakistan and I would go tomorrow...... mainly because I'm not a small minded ill educated idiot.

When you have to hire private security with guns to walk the streets, you know it's a crappy place to go.

From the FCO - "275,351 British Nationals visited Pakistan in 2010 (Source: Ministry of Tourism). 245 British nationals required consular assistance in Pakistan in the period 1 April 2010 - 31 March 2011 for the following types of incident: 27 deaths; four hospitalisations; and 28 arrests, for a variety of offences."

So, 245 out of 275351 trips in a year had problems. Really not that many.

Where's that then? It's not Pakistan.
