no chance, they 'found it' a year ago and have been working to make it sigma 5, im sure its true.
That's correct, it's been confirmed now.
They only need to recreate it a few times at 5 sigma and hopefully improve to a 6 sigma level and it would be undisputed.
Although as stated before, recreation and observasion, with increases in accuracy is extremely difficult at the scale and speeds they work at.

ATLAS reached 5-sigma. CMS reached 4.9-sigma. Two different experiments reached the same conclusion.
Like I said it's confirmed, but ataining 6 Sigma would cement it amazingly well. There won't be any disputes then, especially from those that would want to go out of their way to dismiss this.
Don't get me wrong, I'm extremely excited about this. It's the second best news of my day so far

So does this mean I'll get my hoverboard or a definitive explanation as to why it's not possible soon?
I can only bet that scientists are the only people who care about this, the rest of planet will be blissfully aware until it is actually used to our advantage someday...
Ah well, the Higgs open many doors for us, especially with space travel, though at the moment it seems i cannot figure out how it would be done to reduce something's mass constantly, without it requiring massive amounts of energy.

Just a quickie, if we knew this particle already existed and this is just the confirmation, how will/can it impact innovation in the future?
Hoverboards, worm holes and the ability to close black holes.

Not forgetting the Sky engineer who put the LHC's dish up so they could watch Sky Sports and QVC.
Peter Higgs now has immortality of sorts. People like Blair, Brown, Cameron and Clegg will just be minor footnotes in history long forgotten.
