Hi guys ,

Just finished installing the artic 7970 cooler on my sapphire. As mentioned in a previous post , I can't install the card in my PCI 16 times slot as the hd trays of my CM 690 II get in the way ( fitted with rivets). However I was able to unscrew the lower hd trays , giving me plenty of room if I were to install the card in the PCI2 8 times.

Would I be getting less performance out of the card if installed in that slot?

Would I have to re-install the drivers or would Windows detect it automatically ?

I really appreciate any help you people can provide me...

PS: Installing the artic cooler 7970 isn't as daunting as it may appear... it just takes plenty of time . Really recommend it !

On x8 slot your card might lost 0-3% performance...but that's barely noticable when under actual gaming environment as if you imagine let's say you lose 3% performance, 40fps drop to 38.8fps, or 60fps drop to 58.2fps...that's hardly worth crying about at all :p

As already said, the performance hit should be negligible. Also, step by step guide of you fitting it, or it didn't happen! J/K

Let me know if you are happy with it. I really want one.

How did you find the fitting? did you use the glue for the heatsinks? I tried akasa thermal pads, they fell off lol. used glue instead, solid as a rock. Cool and quiet now. Awesome cooler tbh

Fitting was simple and I did use the glue provided...

Mix it for 5 minutes

Let it stand for 15 minutes

Apply and let it cure for a minimum of 5 hours. I personally left it for over 15 hours just to make sure.

I really can't stop recommending this cooler. My temps while playing Bf3 ( 1125/1575 oc) have never exceeded 47 degrees... but the main thing is that it is dead quiet. I can't stress that enough.

If I had a much bigger case and some extra cash , I would just buy another reference 7970 and slap the cooler on for crossfire.

Just get it ! Best money I have spent on my rig in a while !
