Yep, cycling on a dual carriageway is too scary for me, but I could sort of imagine it if I was a fanatic cyclist and felt comfortable on busy roads... But without lights? that's just stupid. I think there should be far more cycle lanes though, and then this wouldn't be a problem.
I often wonder the same of motorists who sit in queues of traffic all day in London.
Note: I also own a car.

First of all is it allowed to cycle on a motorway?
So they can draft like a boss:
It's against the law to cycle on a pushbike or any un-motorized vehicle on a motorway. also some low powered scooters aren't allowed (anything under 125cc?)First of all is it allowed to cycle on a motorway?
Only a retard would cycle on a dual carriage way plain and simple. there is always another route
i cycle everywhere now i no longer have a motorbike but i just stick to a path since im not putting lights on my bike. already out of pocket 50 quid for my lights that got robbed off it

It's all fun and games until a rabbit jumps out in front of the truck and the truck hits the breaks![]()
Under what law? AFAIK it's not expressly stated in law.
253
Prohibited vehicles. Motorways MUST NOT be used by pedestrians or holders of provisional motorcycle or car licences. Motorcycles under 50 cc, cyclists, horse riders, certain slow-moving vehicles and those carrying oversized loads (except by special permission) also MUST NOT use motorways. Agricultural vehicles and powered wheelchairs/powered mobility scooters (see Rules 36-46 incl) are also banned from motorways.

Think that counts as law??
Section 253 of the Highway Code:
motorists pay road tax, cyclists do not. therefore motorist wins![]()
I suppose I don't actually commute or whatever on a bike so I might not count, but personally I certainly do like cycle lanes! For all their bitching about lack of cycle lanes, cyclists don't actually like cycle lanes so it wouldn't solve anything
Yes that kind of thing doesn't make sense to me... Cycling can be such a lovely way to get around when there are nice views and stress free roads/routes to cycle on. Maybe if it was an everyday commute I might value 15mins more, but tbh for the stress reduction I would still prefer a nice scenic route! The alternate route is via the seafront which would take about 15 more mins and is along a 30mph road with lovely views, it makes no sense to me.
